So twisty and thrilling, couldn't put it down!

Absolutely blown away

American War is set in the not too distant future and follows the story of Sarat from her childhood near the banks of the (now much larger) Mississippi through her radicalization during the second American civil war.

This book was especially scary because the imminent threat posed by climate change makes Akkad's imagining of the future believable. However, as a whole I never felt truly connected with Sarat or any of the book's characters.

This book gave me weird feelings. It's dark and twisted and beautifully written, but I didn't love it because it made me so uncomfortable. Ugh. I don't have much to say. Two stars because even though it was well written and I flew through it, creepy and twisted isn't for me.

So glad I own a book with an orange cover so I could enter the #orangeyouglad giveaway by @Liberty ! If I'm being honest, I've started this book but never finished it 😳 maybe I should pick it back up soon!

This book was so much better than I anticipated from the inside cover blurb. Also I'm usually more of a plot driven reader and this book, while it has some plot, is mostly driven by the main character Andrea.

All Grown Up is smart, brilliantly written, funny, and thought provoking. Andrea doesn't fit the typical "heroine" profile, but is very likable while being flawed and human. I loved loved loved this book.

I felt like the characters in this book weren't well developed. I didn't feel attached to Cora, and the horrible treatment of slaves didn't elicit the emotional response I was expecting, even knowing that things that happened in the book really did happen.

Maybe my high expectations for this book made me judge it a bit more harshly. Maybe Colson Whitehead just isn't for me.

So close to the end of this one! Trying to power through and finish it tonight.... if I can stay awake.

Up next, because it's apparently the best book of the year.

Weeping because I've never been so moved by a book but also because it's over and I don't get to read it anymore... new favorite. Not an easy read emotionally though, fair warning.

Having read some of the poor reviews of this book, I was a bit wary going in. I'm glad I gave it a chance, because I really enjoyed it! Although it's not a literary masterpiece, it's definitely a thriller that will keep you entertained.

Finally finished! Overall, I really enjoyed this. I felt like it did drag on at times, but the writing was great and I loved the characters. I would recommend.

Really enjoying this book (and the cat cuddles).

I'm a sucker for YA, and this book has it all. A gang of thieves, an impossible heist, and some young love thrown into the mix.

Oh man, this book gave me major feels. Probably going to have to wait on the movie until I'm home alone with a gallon of ice cream and lots of tissues 😂 #cryfest

Loved this pick from Emma Watson's feminist book club. I learned so much and really enjoyed that it was a graphic novel.

And now that you don't have to be perfect, you can be good.
