A must read! Got this book mostly as I saw a corelation to another nonfiction book I read relating to Maltese involved in vice in both Cardiff and Soho London. (I am Maltese 😂). The other book is Passport to Vice by Matthew Vella.

I have only an amateurish interest for science, but this goes beyond science. I am not entirely sure why I feel so drawn into the story. Its almost unfathomable how one woman‘s cells can upturn medicine. On the other hand, it‘s sad and appalling that she and her kin are treated as irrelevant, when in reality she was the catalyst and none would have happened without her being.

Second read of the year. This seems to be a study of human nature meshed into a fiction story. Will see how it all unfolds.

This book is a bit of a mixed bag for me. One moment it gets tedious and the next you are hooked. It‘s like walking in a normal, mundane neighborhood for sometime with nothing interesting to see when at one point you turn a corner and get this unexpected magnificent view.

Ok so I‘m at 40% and enjoying this however the “action” has yet to come as the writer eases you into the story gently however not in a tedious way. It gives some detail about Cairo and Jewish traditions etc without being pedantic.

Seems like it‘s gonna be a good one - just started chapter two, so still deciding what to make of it.

13North Did you like it? What was your experience? 5y
FountainOfWords I would say it‘s a narrative about relationships the narrator has with the other characters, especially the female protagonists. This also versus an event which occurs early in the book. Whilst I enjoy any analysis of interpersonal relationships, I could see some people finding this tedious, although this is not something I experienced whilst reading. So liking it is very subjective, I would say. Also it has explicit sexual descriptions. (edited) 5y
FountainOfWords If you think this is something you would like, I definitely recommend. 5y

An easy however decent read which combines the element of mystery with interpersonal relationships and everyday challenges. I read after a more demanding book and found pleasantly refreshing, intriguing and funny.

Gabriel Garci ?a Ma ?rquez's One Hundred Years of Solitude | Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Harold Bloom

So my colleague came back from lunch hour and says “I‘m going to look up this book a friend I just met is reading “A hundred fears of Solitude”. I go “Oh what an original (not) name”. She starts googling the title while looking a pic of the book cover. Meanwhile I look at the same pic only to see the name of the author - Gabriel Garcia Marquez! Erm, I say, that‘s years not fears! As you can deduce my colleague is defo not into books at all. 😂
