Whoa 😱
Just finished this for our #workbookclub

Not even sure what to make of it. I‘ve had it on my shelf for a while so I‘m glad someone picked it to force me to finally take the plunge. After our discussion at lunch today and a little tumbling down the Reddit rabbit hole, I feel like this will need a re-read. Just not right away...

WhatThePuck I hated this book. At the end I felt like I had wasted weeks of my time. This was recommended by a friend and now I have trust issues with her. 😂😂 6y
Bookish.SAM Bahaha 😂 @WhatThePuck ... I can understand the trust issues! This is NOT for everyone. You really gotta know what you‘re doing recommending this one. 6y
WhatThePuck She told me that I read a lot of different things and thought if anyone would get this book it would be me. 😂 How wrong she was. I like my books to have a firm beginning and end with definitive lines from point A to B. This book was like the spirals it was written in with pointless, bonus extra rooms that shouldn't be there. At the end I sat there trying to discern a point to the book. 6y
mcipher We are doing a buddy read of it right now and I‘m both loving and being bored by it. I‘m only on chapter 5 so I imagine that it gets even weirder. 6y
Bookish.SAM @mcipher I feel like I went through similar... bored in some parts then heart racing in others. Good luck with the buddy read. I think that‘s a great way to enjoy this bizarre book. When my book club chatted about it everyone read something different into the story/links/theories. It was fun to hear everyone‘s take on it. 6y

Help!!
I‘m trying to pick a book for my #workbookclub and have landed on this stack that‘s been sitting around my house unread for ages.

Any recommendations??

bookandcat I absolutely loved both A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and Sex and Rage. (The latter doesn't have much sex or rage in it, just fyi. Lol). Brooklyn might have a *bit* more meat for a book club discussion. 6y
Bookish.SAM Thanks @bookandcat !! That‘s sort of what I was thinking about Brooklyn. I haven‘t read it but I do have a habit of trying to bring slightly ‘more challenging‘ books to book club and it rarely works out for me 😕 6y
BarbaraJean Mr. Penumbra has some good themes for discussion, and is just a lot of fun overall! It has a bookish scavenger hunt kind of plot, and the cover glows in the dark, so that‘s also a plus. 😁 The Eyre Affair is also SO much fun—but maybe doesn‘t have as much discussion potential (beyond “isn‘t it clever?”). Pamwurtzler I like The Eyre Affair or Mr. Penumbra! 6y
TheBookStacker Me. Penumbra!!! 😍 6y
Crewgurl Mr. Penumbra!!!! 6y
Reviewsbylola My book club read A Tree Grows in Brooklyn years ago and it was well liked by all of us I think. 6y

Read for our #workbookclub. Really enjoyed it. I‘ve always been interested in mythology but can‘t quite keep everyone straight.. this was a great intro and from the perspective of a lesser known player (to me anyway). Reading this has me curious about ‘Songs of Achilles‘ which hasn‘t really been on my radar.

tpixie I enjoyed both!! 6y
MicrobeMom My favorite of last year! Loved it! 6y

I finally convinced some co-workers to start a #workbookclub !!! So excited 😆 This is our first read and my intro to sci-fi. A great choice on both accounts 👏
