We had a freeze a while back and lost some small trees and several branches off the larger ones. But the added sunlight let us have a wildflower garden this year. We enjoy sitting outside identifying various flowers as they bloom. It gets plenty of visitors: hummingbirds, insects, lizards, butterflies, and plenty of songbirds. Our patio plants are also happy. 🦎🐝🐌🦋 Out neighbor‘s cat likes napping in the flowers too. 😂

Yesterday was our Friends of The Library plant sale out in Mason, Michigan. And yours truly was out in unseasonably cold weather working it. And afterwards I went to other places in town to get more plants. #mittenlitten.

Got up to the mountains over the weekend and saw lots of lovely wildflowers! Anyone who lives near the Rocky Mountains should consider getting this book since it is so helpful. My favorite feature is that the entries are organized according to color, which helps you identify flowers even when you don‘t know their names.

Mom and Dad‘s farm has loads of wildflowers and its share of snakes. So…Dad‘s Father‘s Day present is ready to go. This was an amazingly lucky find this morning at the San Antonio Book Festival. They‘re perfect for him (and I may sneak some reading in before I give these to him).

When you try to be the person who actually knows the nature around you. Because you never could identify sh*t but you want to be that person who can. 🤣😂😅 Vinca minor (apocynacea) aka lesser periwinkle or creeping myrtle. Blue, violet or white five pinwheel petals, tubular below the broad, oval glossy evergreen leaves with white midvein. #litsylove

Laughterhp I never could understand how people just know what plants and flowers are what! 3y
Moonprismpower @Laughterhp maybe their parents teach them? Or they just have a natural interest and learn over time. I don‘t have a natural interest. I have to work at it. 🙃 so if anyone ever asks me what kind of flower is that? Imma just say it is a flower. And leave it at that. 😦😑😅. Unless I become an awesome expert! But I probably won‘t. 3y

When I‘m not reading or working I love gardening. After a tough year of drought last year my native plants have bounced back and I‘d love to share some of their blooms with you. They are robust yet delicate!

Thanks @EadieB for the tag😘
I love my garden. It‘s my happy place💕
It‘s Autumn here in Australia after a long dry summer, but we recently had some rain and my garden has responded. The Crepe Myrtles are amazing. Our Macadamia orchards will take longer to recover but Mother Nature has a way of bouncing back if we help her😍
Happy Easter everyone.
Can you post @catebutler @LapReader 😘😘

Buechersuechtling Such beautiful photos‼️🥰But I am sorry, it might be a mean thing to say, but for me it‘s weird to think of Easter as autumn festivity. Over here in Europe it‘s a typical spring thing. You know, like: “Oh, it‘s Easter, now it‘s spring.” I‘m sure it will be just the other way around over in Australia – and it‘s just how we are raised on it and how we are used to things being. But still. I never thought of Easter that way. 😇 4y
Centique @Buechersuechtling that‘s one of the funny things for us in NZ too - whether it‘s Christmas, Easter or whatever - all the movies and tv and books are set in the opposite season. BUT I love my Christmas on the beach and I love my Easter autumn leaves - so it‘s all good! 4y
Centique Your garden is so inspiring. Can I ask how large it is? I dream of a rural home with a big garden - but I don‘t do very well with my 750 squares here. We have really thick clay in this part of Auckland plus salt spray from the sea, drought in summer, drenched in winter 😂- so only the hardiest plants survive. I have a lot of agaves 😂😂 4y
Freespirit Hi @Buechersuechtling it is strange the differing seasonal holidays! But my favourite time of the year is Autumn here..days are cooler...it's perfect gardening weather! I'd love to have a cold Christmas one day...hope you are keeping well😘 4y
Freespirit Hi @Centique how are you going over in NZ? I hope you are coping with the isolation....it's a weird new normal. Gardening must be hard on the coast. We have some native plants that do well. Thank you for asking about our garden. We have a 100 acre farm in northern NSW. Hubby grows Macadamia's and Pecan's. I have about 2 acres around our house which I have planted out with fruit and flowering trees and garden beds. We also have a vegetable garden▶️ 4y
Freespirit @Centique ...and chickens. The soil is wonderful...deep loam, clay based so we can survive droughts usually. We get good rainfall here...usually..not so the past few years. I mix natives and hardy cottage plants. 💚💚 4y
Centique We‘re doing well thanks. Gosh you have a big farm! How wonderful. I imagine the bush fires would have been a very frightening time in your area 🙁 I hope you get a lot more rainfall in future. 🙏The orchard and gardens sound so beautiful - and in these strange times, great to get out and dig and harvest in the garden. I hope you don‘t have any problems with labour shortages - I know our horticultural industries are crying out for pickers. 4y
catebutler What a beautiful garden scene! It absolutely brightened my day to see these beautiful pictures. 4y

These primroses are getting on with doing what flowers do, regardless of the human drama.

The tagged book is a glorious hefty tome, not so much a botanical as a cultural compendium of our wild plants. (Of course, I have the companion volume, on birds, too. 🙂)

Lindy 😍 4y
