Treated myself to a generous book order and things are starting to trickle in. Lots of childhood favorite, but a few lesser known books that I've been eyeing for ages. This falls into the latter category. I know it won't rival the original, but can't resist starting it anyway.

quietjenn @LeahBergen in fairness, very little gives me as much pleasure as Cold Comfort, so it's to be expected. I only read a little of this last night, but it already has me laughing, so I'm sure I'll enjoy. 4y

Cold Comfort Farm is an engaging & humorous satire of English Society at the turn of the century. Stella Gibbons has a true gift for wit. I enjoyed the old matriarch shut-in who claims throughout the book, "I saw something nasty in the woodshed". A must read for anyone with a sense of humor. The characters are eccentric and funny and you cannot read this book without laughing.

Currey I also loved the fact the meddling MC managed to pull off the meddling to good effect, in comparison to Austen‘s Emma. 4y

I loved my recent read of Cold Comfort Farm so much that I figured I needed to see what else happened to these characters. Will there ALWAYS be Starkadders at Cold Comfort Farm? Is there STILL something nasty in the woodshed? 😆😆

Conference is supposedly nowhere near as brilliant as the original and Christmas is a book of short stories (I‘ll probably save that one for the festive season).

andrew61 I'd not heard of conference but ill look it up. Christmas is a bit frustrating as whilst i remember enjoying the stories there is only one story on the farm. Maybe I'll reread cold comfort soon as it is so good. 5y

Finally I had to resort to flicking through my shelves, and I'm very glad I did because this gorgeous little volume is perfect to show off!
