Pickpick

This is a light pick for me and seemed to suffer like many middle books of a series. Our skeleton bard is still on the hunt to find out who he is and he's still accompanied by his trusty companion, the gelatinous goo. The new characters we meet here aren't as charming or cute as in Vol 1. The artwork continues to be amazing and we moved toward our goal.

Volume 3 comes out this month & there's a website where you can listen to Stitch's songs.

🍫 🍭What's your favorite candy?🍭🍫
Take 5, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, and Chocolate-covered marshmallow egg/tree/pumpkin shapes here!

This was a light pick for me, but might be better for the intended MG kids. We follow 4 kids through a candymaking competition with layers of the day including through each kid's POV. This isn't just marshmallow fluff, though. These kids are dealing with some real life issues and ⬇️

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick and there's some humor. Early on, uptight rich kid Phillip says "we're losing daylight here" and he's exactly the type of kid you'd expect to say it!? Daisy has an outlandish background and it was rather unbelievable.
This had been on my radar for a couple of years so I was glad for the chance to read the book. Keep the candy close by! Thanks @megnews #mgmarch #middlegrademarch

It's funny what people will do for a bit of an inheritance, but given that 40 years later we can see exactly what really things people will do for money (and love & fame) thanks to reality TV, these folks are pretty tame.

Wealthy gent Mr Westing dies and gathers 16 heirs to play one final game to get that money. It was slow for me in the beginning but picked up in the middle as we got into the mystery of the story. There was some funny ⬇️

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick word play and a few instances where tween girl Turtle, the youngest contestant on what would today be called Who Wants to Win an Inheritance, was the smartest person in the room. I especially enjoyed that this middle grade book gave us a bit of an epilogue so we can see where everyone ends up. There's something here for kids & adults to enjoy without being a lesson into the reader. #bookspinbingo @thearomaofbooks #mgmarch @megnews 10mo

During #MGMarch, Echo by Pam Munez Ryan affected me the most. It‘s a beautiful story. I love reading on the porch in the Spring! I am hosting #YApril and I will do any Readathons that @Andrew65 does, #BookSpinBingo, our local library‘s #100YEARS100BOOKS, #BFC21 and #BOOKED2021. I am looking at the #ThankfulAThon, possibly the #DisabilityReadathon, and the #Buzzwordathon. Those are on Twitter.

Andrew65 Always great to have you with us 😊 10mo

March was a very good reading month! I completed 34 books (ok, Rip van Winkle at 20 pages isn‘t really a book but still), had one DNF; 7208 pages 😲 is a record for me. 23 for #MGMarch, 15 GN/comics collections.

For the year I‘m at 94/18978. I‘m...quite happy with that and fully expect not to maintain the momentum.

My last post, It's been a great March. I didn't read all the books I planed, but I read quite a few.

5⭐ A Single Shard 12th century Korea.
Another orphan story I loved.

4.5⭐ Because of Winn-Dixie
What's better than a book about an orphaned kid? an orphaned dog. A great story of how Winn-Dixie helps Opal make friends in a new town.

4 ⭐ The Storm in the Barn 1937
Enjoyable graphic novel of dust bowl Kansas.

4⭐ Bud, not Buddy 1936
I love a good orphan hero! Bud made me laugh, and that's saying something for me.

4⭐ Elijah of Buxton 1859
For the first half of the book I felt like I was waiting for something to happen. It was worth the wait! I did not expect that ending at all.

megnews I rarely cry at books but Elijah 😭 10mo

Mehso-so

I never fully loved the Peter Pan adaptations I've seen (Allison Williams ca-caw-ing, anyone?!), so I hoped it was a matter of poorly translating from the page. I can safely say that I just don't love the story. I've never had a desire to play mommy, so Wendy going off with Peter to essentially be a mom to the Lost Boys didn't appeal to me. There are moments of cute whimsy, but overall this isn't for me. There was a strange styling ⬇️

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick to the writing while we looked in on the Darling home, too, that I don't see my younger self enjoying. #FairyTaleReadingChallenge @Charityann and another March #bookspinbingo box. @TheAromaofBooks #middlegrademarch #mgmarch @megnews 10mo
