Book 5 in the Home Repair is Homicide Series (#SeriesLove2023). This time the husband of a domestic abuse victim is found chopped up in his butcher shop, and his wife is covered in blood. But there are more nefarious actions going on in this small Maine town. Although a cozy mystery series, these books hit on some serious topics.

Great as an audiobook.

TheSpineView Well done! 13mo

The fourth in the series. This book finds Jacobia and Ellie trying to track down a lost Stradivarius. A supposed relative comes to stay to write a dissertation, but things aren‘t connecting…. And so ensues the mystery. This one was decent, not the best of the series (thanks to a bit of teenage angst…). I‘ll continue with the aeries. The narrator of the audiobooks does a fabulous job!

My second finish for #marvellousmarch

The third book in the Home Repair is Homicide series. A bad seed from the past has returned to town to stir up trouble. When he is found dead, everyone in town is a suspect. Yet it is Jacobia‘s ex Victor who is arrested, so Jacobia and Ellie set out to prove Victor‘s innocence.

Another good listen for this series. The narrator does such a wonderful job of making each character distinctive.

Another book for #seriesread2021

Readergrrl I love this series because it‘s set in Eastport ME. I spend my summers (usually) on Deer Island in NB, just across the water and go to EP for the 4th of July parade every year (usually). I pick up the next in the series every summer. It will have been 2 summers now that I haven‘t been! 😢 It‘s so ironic and bittersweet that I‘m seeing your post today, of all days!! 3y
WanderingBookaneer I wonder if @BookishMarginalia has heard of this series. 3y
Mollyanna @Readergrrl It is a wonderful series. I love all the descriptions of the town and local area. Here‘s hoping you can get back there next summer 🤞🏻. 3y

When the local butcher (and abuser) is found wrapped in his own butcher paper, the finger automatically points at his wife. But the bodies keep piling up, and shady characters are everywhere. Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Great job! I feel a bit of smug satisfaction that the butcher got wrapped up in his own paper. 😆 3y

The second in the series with a bit of a time jump. A local down and out guy is found dead at the beach. Jake and Ellie work to find out who killed him in addition to getting the area prepped for an historical grant review.

Great on audio. I enjoyed and look forward to the next.

1st finish for #FeastMode and #25b4Monday
3rd finish for #ProgressItNovember

Andrew65 Sounds interesting. 👏👏👏 (edited) 3y
Librarybelle I love this series and was just telling my mom about it! I have to look where I left off. 3y
Mollyanna @Librarybelle It is a fun series! And the narrator for the audiobooks is wonderful. I look forward to the next in the series. I love the descriptions of the town and the coastal areas. Makes me want to visit. 3y

Mollyanna @Andrew65 It is. A fun series. 3y
Librarybelle I haven‘t been to Eastport, but I‘ve driven by the turnoff to Eastport on Route 1 - it is fun to read a series and know the landmarks described! 3y
Mollyanna @Librarybelle I do love it when I know the area in a series. I bet it‘s a beautiful area. 3y

So this was almost a bail... then I went on GR and someone recommended the audiobook, made all the difference in the world. Graves likes to interrupt her narrative with descriptions. The narrator of the audiobook did such an excellent job of incorporating these descriptions in her narration that I couldn‘t stop listening. In the end, after the switch, it became a pick. Can‘t wait to continue the series (on audio).

Book 1 for #15books15weeks

TheHeartlandBookFairy Way to go, I love that you found a way to make that work and ended up enjoying it! 4y
Mollyanna @TheAromaofBooks Completely forgot to note that this was my #bookspin for May. I‘m still hoping to get through another 2 or 3 (I was in a slump, but seem to be back) this weekend. Looking forward to another #bookspinbonanza in the fall! Now I‘ve got to work on my June list. (edited) 4y

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! Great review, and it's so funny that a change in format made the whole book more enjoyable! 4y
Mollyanna @TheAromaofBooks Isn‘t it though? I had this happen once before with 4y
Readergrrl I spend my summers on Deer Island which Graves mentions quite a bit in this series. It is the small island across the border in Canada. I go to Eastport every 4th of July for their parade!!! Best ever!!! I picked up this book a few summers ago and now it‘s a ritual to get the next in the series every summer! 4y
Mollyanna @Readergrrl I loved the descriptions of the locations. It sounds so beautiful! That is a wonderful tradition. I bet it‘s a blast to be reading the series while in the location. 4y
Readergrrl @Mollyanna It is a lovely place, to be sure! Just a small fishing community, no tourists really! My family has lived on DI for generations and even though I live in the States full time, Deer Island is my North Star! 4y
Mollyanna @Readergrrl That sounds phenomenal! I love those quiet hideaway places. It sounds like you have a lot of love for DI. I‘ve been to Maine once, but only got to Kennebunkport. I hope to get back and travel a bit more. You‘ve definitely made a trip to Eastport a serious thought for the itinerary. 4y
