Do-it-yourself killer fixes small-town thug... For ex-Wall Streeter Jacobia Tiptree and her teenaged son, Sam, September promises tranquil days winter-proofing their rambling handyman's special of a home in Eastport, Maine. But there's nothing idyllic about this Down East autumn. For starters, the return of truly vicious native son Reuben Tate stirs up the town. And when somebody slits Reuben's throat and hangs his corpse on the cemetery gate, the police trace a bloodied scalpel to surgeon Victor TiptreeJacobia's former husband. Yet Jake knows her troublesome, trouble-prone ex is capable of just about anything except murder. Proving that, though, is another matter. Eastport is packed with tourists and former residents for the annual Salmon Festivaland Jake soon realizes any Eastporter, past or present, has motive for Tate's murder. To nail the real killer, Jake and her best friend, Ellie White, must probe a past as rotten as crumbling clapboard, while a secret hatred builds toward a series of murders even more brutal than Reuben Tate himself.... The third book in the Home Repair is Homicide series. A bad seed from the past has returned to town to stir up trouble. When he is found dead, everyone in town is a suspect. Yet it is Jacobia‘s ex Victor who is arrested, so Jacobia and Ellie set out to prove Victor‘s innocence.

Another good listen for this series. The narrator does such a wonderful job of making each character distinctive.

Another book for #seriesread2021

Readergrrl I love this series because it‘s set in Eastport ME. I spend my summers (usually) on Deer Island in NB, just across the water and go to EP for the 4th of July parade every year (usually). I pick up the next in the series every summer. It will have been 2 summers now that I haven‘t been! 😢 It‘s so ironic and bittersweet that I‘m seeing your post today, of all days!! 3y
WanderingBookaneer I wonder if @BookishMarginalia has heard of this series. 3y
Mollyanna @Readergrrl It is a wonderful series. I love all the descriptions of the town and local area. Here‘s hoping you can get back there next summer 🤞🏻. 3y

Verdict on “After Anna” - pick, though the ending felt a little out of place. But! I let my library pile get WAY out of control again, and so I‘m about to try to plow through this one in a few hours. Adventures with Jake and the crew are always pretty speedy, here‘s hoping this isn‘t an exception to the rule! 😂 #wickedfix #sarahgraves #homerepairishomicideseries

Not sure if this series counts as a #cozymystery, but if not it's at least cozy-adjacent. This third installment brings back all the things I've enjoyed about the series so far: amateur sleuthing, home renovation, a little family drama, Maine food talk, and a great setting. Perfect vacation reading.

Laura317 I think cozy-adjacent counts! 8y
