This had an interesting start, but I‘m just not enjoying the main character or the writing style. It has a YA tone but definitely adult content. Just not for me. #hailthebail

After 235 pages, I just don't care enough to read another 300 pages. #HailTheBail

I started reading this with so much expectations considering the high ratings everywhere. But, it turned out to be such a dull. Two men, one architect and one serial killer, the only common factor was they were both in Chicago.
It should have been 2 separate books for completely separate audiences. “Depraved“ was such a great book on H H Holmes and completely satisfies the true crime, serial killer bug in you.

I've tried so hard with this, cos y'know, it's Stephen King. I have to bail. I just don't engage with the characters. Sorry #LosersClub this one is not for me.

I listened to this book for an hour, and that was all I could bear. I kept waiting for it to become interesting and it just didn‘t. #HailTheBail #BetterBooksAhead

I don't get the hype or why this even has a mainstream publisher. Was it popular on Booktok or something? You can find better self-published books on KU. Dark? Please, there's zero depth or emotional attachment so it doesn't feel dark. Romantic? The courtship is more painful than the torture scenes. Comedy? A light tone and irrational characters isn't enough to make it funny.

Definitely in the minority on this book, but I lost interest halfway through. I didn‘t connect with any of the characters and the “I don‘t like this” vibes started to outweigh the “I love this!” vibes. #HailtheBail 🚀
Bailing 100 pages in. Scalzi is always hit or miss for me. I love the idea of this book - the moon has, in an instant, turned to cheese and no one knows why or how it what is next. Scalzi uses interviews, news reports and (for me) way too many pov. The book is creative but I have been sitting here for the last 40 or so pgs wishing I was reading Blake Crouch's Project Hail Mary instead so I am going to stop now
After 43 days, I am calling it. I can‘t push myself any further. I tried the digital arc that I received, then I added the audio, then I added a print copy, in hopes that I would be able to push thru. I love this period of US History, but the slow meandering plot just did me in. Also, at this part of the book, some things were added to the story that I felt just slowed it down further and didn‘t make sense with where things were going. I read 👇🏻
