It just so happens, I'll be focused on WWII.

#widehorizonsreadathon @Emilymdxn

I didn't plan it. It just happened that way. It is appropriate though since it is the 75th Anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.

Plan to read:
Joseph and his Brothers (Mann wrote the origin story of the Hebrew faith during this time period.)
The Girl in the Blue Coat (my book club choice)

Will finish The Unwomanly Face of War and Death in Berlin.

Emilymdxn That‘s an awesome topic and a perfect time to cover it! I‘ve been wanting to read the unwomanly face of war for ages so I‘m excited to see what you think 12h
Butterfinger @Emilymdxn I have been reading it with @squirrelbrain @youneverarrived @Daisey this month. I have learned so much from this book, reading the conversations that the women had with the author. It is no wonder why it won the Nobel Prize. 12h

Pickpick

A German soldier on a train speeding to “Soon”, which he intuits is his impending death. He doesn‘t know how, but he knows when and where. As the reader you count down the miles and hours with him in dread. The closer Soon gets, the faster you read to witness the end.

Not a cheerful novella, tragic really, but there is a lot to chew on. Definitely introspective, not plot driven.

Always curious about other readers‘ notes, even if it is a library book. 😜 WTF

Mehso-so

It is listed as "Vampire" Literature in another book but it's not! I only brought this book due to that simple fact . It's a story concerning rape of a widowed Marquise by a serving officer. The only "Vampire" element is that Count F... is proclaimed dead by his Commanding officer soon after the main characters "encounter" . He surprises them later that he has lived months with visions of the Marquise O... DISAPPOINTED ? not a vampire tale.
