Not much posting lately! Yesterday was another really long workday into work-night & today I met up with former coworkers & went to the maker‘s market & then to get dim sum which inspired today‘s haiku. Yep another food one! 😋😉 Special shout out to my favorite turnip cakes!

Saturday Vibe:

Turnip cakes, dumplings,
Dim sum—to touch the heart's joy
In small, steamy bites

The author draws inspiration from his personal experience to show the similarities between Judaism and Chinese culture by highlighting the Rosh Hashanah and Lunar New Year traditions. Winner of the Sydney Taylor Book Awards 2024, it‘s a great picture book with vibrant illustrations to share with young readers, to learn about different cultures and reflect on customs that intertwine so beautifully. The back matter is very informative and helpful.

Nominated for the 2024 #WCCPBA, Friends are Friends, Forever is a lovely story about the immigration experience that would be nice to share during the lunar new year. It includes an extension of the usual snow flake activity that students will love.

#TemptingTitles Day 10: #WithAVeggie based on the author‘s own childhood memories of her Chinese immigrant grandmother who also worked in a Seattle cannery in the 1960s and 70s. This story teaches young children a good lesson about how it is okay to admit the truth

This story sends the message about being able to tell the truth and how sometimes only young innocent children have that courage. The illustrations are bright and fun and the book layers the pages so that some have to be unfolded to reveal the next part of the story.

Happy Lunar New Year to all those who celebrate. I have been celebrating this holiday since I was a kid. Where we lived celebrations would happen all over the area. I loved the music, cultural outfits, parade, music & the food. My sister is living in Japan & she is enjoying the festivals.
