They all take place in the 1100‘s pre-A Morbid Taste For Bones and tell of Cadfael as he came to and settled into life at Shrewsberry Abbey. Cadfael is a soldier-turned-herbalist who uses his knowledge and observational skills to solve mysteries.
The language takes some getting used to but I‘m excited to move from here into the long series of full-length novels.
pickI started the Brother Cadfael series this year and I've really enjoyed the first three books. Cadfael is a monk, but also a thoughtful and kind detective, and the books offer a good look into life in medieval England and Wales.

pickThese are another guilty pleasure for me. The third in Peter's Cadfael series, the Titular monk has to figure out how someone was killed with Monk's Hood oil made from his own workshop. The series is a classic of British Mysteries, and is well worth reading, this installment is no different.

pickFinally finished reading this book. It's one of those books where the writing is really good, and the twist was also just as good, but I wasn't in the right headspace to enjoy it as well as I should have. Historical mysteries used to be very enjoyable for me, but these days, not so much. This book deserves high praise all the same.
