I love the southwestern editions of these Golden West cookbooks. But, I think I‘m going to pass on this recipe for tamales. I would try them if they were made for me, but I think finding 4 cups of sheep blood in my corner of the world would be a task. 😏

Wasn‘t expecting the humor but parts of it were funny. Some of the recipes were pretty simple and some took more time and effort. Enjoyed his personal stories and enjoyed this one overall. My husband and I have taken turns making recipes from this one, and he did the buttermilk pie as well. Great results on everything. Great addition to our cookbook collection.

I got the news today that I have skin cancer — I will be fine; the doctor says it‘s highly treatable. But “cancer” is a scary word, even when you know you‘ll be fine, so I‘m lying here in bed, wallowing, eating junk, and reading Edward Lee. I‘m giving myself today for the wallowing; tomorrow, I‘ll just have to go back to my regular self.

It‘s been awhile since I‘ve been to the dermatologist; I had an appointment last year, but I cancelled it because it was the middle of COVID and I was sick. I just randomly decided to call on Monday and made an appointment for Tuesday. Now here I am. (edited) 3y

BookNAround I‘m sorry. Cancer is a scary word for sure. I‘m a melanoma survivor and I still remember the day they called to tell me I had it. Best of luck to you with treatment or surgery or however they plan to get it for you. 3y

Which is fine — I was just wanting to get immediately back to a more normal life after my cat, but it looks like it might be a few more weeks before that can happen. 3y

wanderinglynn I know it must be so frustrating, and scary, and sad. A lot has happened to you in a rather short time. I feel for you. I think right now it‘s more important to focus on self-care and mental health. Life happens, we adapt, and try to keep moving forward. 💚 3y

Day 6 a day late. You may have noticed that I enjoy some self depreciating humor. This post was a little ruff for me. 1. I'm allergic to peppers which makes BBQ really bland and in group settings, my food has to be cooked separately on tin foil and the cook has to be convinced that I'm not just picky. More in the comments ⤵️

mandarchy 2. I loved to collect vintage cookbooks and enjoyed trying to cook delicious food that wouldn't make me sick on my own grill. Then I got married and ruined everything. 3y

mandarchy 3. My note X husband thought he was a grill master, but he made everything taste like lighter fluid and he trashed my really nice webber from (grounds right there). 3y

mandarchy 4. I bought a new house and moved on. It came with this grill and I thought I'd try again, but everyone who approached it and tried has failed. So I quit. I'm not in the least bit interested in eating anything cooked outside. 3y

mandarchy 5. Come to this summer. My X is homeless. He was about to live in his car when his son figured it out and broke into the worst stress induced hives ever. Add record breaking heat. So against my better judgment I let them camp in my tiny yard. Well. It's not really working and now I can't get rid of the X. So while I've loved LSC, this pretty much explains why I hate camping now. 3y

mandarchy 6. I could keep going. I also hope to never smell campfire smoke again. My half of the continent is burning up and too many lives, homes lost. I hate the smell now. I hope you all don't think I'm a part pooper now. 3y
