Frank and Sarah Malloy are getting ready to celebrate the New Year 1899 at Trinity Church when they notice their neighbour Mr. Pritchard behaving oddly and annoying the other revellers. Frank tries to convince Pritchard to return home with them, but he refuses. The next morning Sarah and Frank are horrified to learn Pritchard was murdered sometime in the night. To protect the family from scandal, Nelson asks Frank to investigate. Frank and Sarah delve into Pritchard's past and realise there may have been a deadly side to the dawning of the new century.

Pickpick

22 books into this series & I still enjoy catching up with the Malloys. They've come a long way from the midwife and copper I met in book 1. This is set in 1899, where a recent connection of the couple is found dead after the New Year's celebration. With the police paid to turn a blind eye, it's up to the Malloys to solve the murder & rescue the man's reputation all while working with acquaintances new & old from the seedier side of ol' New York.

Mehso-so

What had me excited to read this story was the husband and wife investigative duo of Sarah and Frank but it was mostly Frank doing the investigating while Sarah was focused on other tasks. I felt like she was in the background more often than she should have been. What I loved about this story was the many pieces of historical information that were woven throughout the story, it was a great period piece! Full review at www.thegenreminx.com
