#LittensLoveSJM #ToG The Assassin and the desert: Celaena is sent to train with the master of the Silent Assassins in the desert as punishment for defying Arobynne - after he beat the crap out of her and did god knows what to Sam. Celaena meets a girl named Ansel who has had a difficult traumatic life, just like Celaena - and she makes a friend.⬇️

StayCurious She sees a different way of existing than under the cruel tyranny of Arobynne and she starts to see a change in how she views Sam. Honestly this novella was kind of boring and I was just waiting for the moments where she mentioned Sam and seeking any info that we might find useful in the rest of the series. I didn‘t much like Ansel and was not invested in her story. 2d
mcctrish This novella didn‘t seem to have as much story to it as the previous ones, although I guess it sets up a future Celaena would rather live in and makes further connections for when she takes over the world 2d

5feet.of.fury I didn‘t find this one as engaging either, it gave the background in the Asterion horse other than that I was like “just get back to Sam!” Lol 2d
BarkingMadRead @5feet.of.fury 💯💯💯 2d
LiseWorks I felt betrayed by Ansel. I did find it a bit slow. 2d
Butterfinger I found myself liking this story. The peace would have been such a balm to Celaena. So different from Aerobynn. This group showed more compassion, more like Celaena's values. 15h

An afternoon fire and reading session. Jumping back into this series! I have no idea when I‘m supposed to read this, but I get why people read it after the second book, so that‘s what I‘m doing.

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG The Assassin and the Healer: this was a great story and another example of Celaena finding a way to help someone and do something for the greater good. She meets Yrene, a wannabe healer who is adrift and feeling lost in the wake of Adarlan‘s conquest. She teaches Yrene some valuable lessons and gives her the means to become what she is destined to be. I have a feeling we will be seeing Yrene again. ⬇️

StayCurious Also, Arobynne is a horrible master and I hope Sam wasn‘t punished too badly. I can‘t believe what Celaena dealt with in Arobynne‘s guild. (edited) 1w
mcctrish I hope we do meet Yrene soon ❤️ and I look forward to hunting Arobynne down and killing him 1w

5feet.of.fury Celaena is such a badass and it was nice to see her being a “girl‘s girl” in this one. I‘m sure it‘ll come back around down the line 1w
BarkingMadRead I hope we see Yrene again ! 1w
LiseWorks I want to see Yrene again. Two girls feeling sorry for themselves helping each other. 1w
Butterfinger I don't understand her pride in being Aerobynne's heir or successor. He is truly awful. 1w
Roary47 I hope we see Yrene again too. I‘m so glad Celeana helped her to gain more confidence. 1w

#LittensLoveSJM The Assassin and the Pirate Lord: What a wild swashbuckling ride this was! We get to see 16-year-old Celaena, brash and reckless, sent with Sam on a mission by Arobynn. They are supposed to make a deal with Rolfe, the Pirate Lord, but Arobynn wasn‘t completely forthcoming in the reason for their mission. We see elements of Arobynn‘s corruption and Celaena starts to lose trust in her Master. She also grows closer to her rival Sam⬇️

StayCurious We see that despite being assassins, Sam and Celaena have morals and care for people. We see their history and the bond that will soon grow between the characters (I‘m already getting the tissues handy). Can‘t wait to read more from Celaena‘s early days. 2w
LiseWorks I found her reckless and not trusting in Sam. He almost died here. I'm not sure her plans are in the best interest of her friends and allies. And because we know about his future, it was a nail bitter. 2w

5feet.of.fury I like the down to the wire escape , the action was so fun, the tavern scene was great & im so excited to learn more about her & Sam 2w
mcctrish I had just assumed C and Sam were buddies from the beginning 🤯 2w
5feet.of.fury @mcctrish same! I was so confused at how they started off! 2w
Butterfinger @5feet.of.fury @mcctrish I was thinking the same. Rivals since they were kids. The pirate brawl, the chain, everything was nailbiting good. Will these characters show up again? I mean, will we see Rolfe in the future? 2w
StayCurious @Butterfinger I think he‘s definitely mentioned in Heir of Fire 2w
BarkingMadRead I love the whole enemies to lovers thing going on with Sam and Caleana although I‘m sad for her in advance since we know how it ends. She definitely plans like a 16 year old 🤣 2w

This book had so much going on. This is a new series to me and I‘m liking it so far. I liked the different point of views and it really kept the book interesting and flowing. I also like reading these with #littenslovesjm and reading it over the month. Can‘t wait for the next one!

This is the 1st Maas book out of the 9 I‘ve now read that I genuinely enjoyed. But darn, it should not take until the 5th book in a series to feel invested…also, there definitely are some plot choices that feel weaker than they should given the build-up. P.S. peep those lil toe beans!

annahenke Just started a reread of this one. Flying through the series… yet again! It‘s such a comfort world for me. 3w

#wdncw we don‘t care that it is 2 pm, we are flying to Thunder Bay ( to take oldest to teachers college) and we paid good money for this wee bottle of white wine with our Air Canada ticket price 😉 ( John was aghast at the day drinking 😂 and we don‘t care about that either) #littenslovesjm

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Next is to go back to the beginning with the prequel novellas. B/c they‘re broken up by book, we‘ll read one per week and I‘ll post on Saturday: Aug 30, Sept 6, 13, 20, finishing on Sept 27. I‘ve heard reading these novellas gives information that is valuable for the rest of the series. If you‘re not able to join, let me know and I can remove you from my main SJM tag list or save you for the next book.
