I think I remember hearing somewhere that #Despacito loosely translated to “slowly,” and that is exactly how my reading of War and Peace is going! Halfway through #TheYearofWAP, but not quite halfway through the book. But I‘ve enjoyed what I‘ve read so far.

#HeatofJuly

BarbaraBB I think it‘s a book best read #despacito 😀😘 6y
CBee This is my husband‘s favorite. I don‘t think I could make it through, so kudos to you!! 6y
Ashley_Nicoletto I'm also reading through this slowly. I enjoy it, but some days it feels like I'll never finish. I just keep reading. 🤣🤣 6y

#Family and love and war come together in this masterpiece. I‘m very slowly making my way through this and am loving this translation. I love it so much I made sure my library system had this edition! #theyearofWAP #maylovesclassics

MicrobeMom Love this cover of this version! 6y
Moray_Reads It really is one of the greatest novels ever written. Phenomenal 6y
ferskner I think I like this cover better than my edition. Boohoohoo! 6y
TheWordJar So glad you tagged me! I‘m still slowly making my way through it too! I‘m enjoying it in the weird way I enjoyed Anna Karenina. He puts sooo many details in about everything, which could be boring, but I usually find them fascinating. 6y
Librarybelle @TheWordJar Exactly! It‘s long and wordy, but yet magical and fascinating. 6y

“I will drink a whole bottle of rum...without taking it from my lips...sitting outside the window...without holding on to anything.”

Why did I put off War and Peace so long? It is a riot! There‘s been a gossipy salon (home, not hair), a dude-bro b*tch session about the virtues of not being married (explains the married man), and basically a Russian frat party (real live wrestling bear included). This is a soap opera! I‘m hooked!

#TheYearofWAP

Gezemice I loved the beginning, too. Wait until you get to the war parts... 6y

I have to meet up with family in a half hour, yet my mind is screaming to me to start this. Here we go, I‘m diving in...#TheYearofWAP #litsyclassics

Christine11 That‘s such a gorgeous looking book ! Love the blue 😊 6y
Moray_Reads Enjoy. It's a masterpiece 6y

susanw I‘m keeping up with Anna Karenina readalong, but I started this a couple years ago on only got 400 pages in. I might pick it up again while I‘m in a Tolstoy mood, it was good, I can‘t remember why it got put aside. 6y
Godmotherx5 I‘ve wanted to read it but am trying to find the right time. My current #chunkyread is 2666 (edited) 6y
Librarybelle @Christine11 I think it‘s pretty too! 6y
Librarybelle @SandyW Haha! I managed to get 10 pages read. 😂 6y
Librarybelle Thanks, @Moray_Reads ! It‘s been on my to read list for quite awhile. 6y
Librarybelle @susanw I enjoyed Anna Karenina; hope you do too! 6y
Librarybelle @Godmotherx5 I understand completely! I started reading Gone With the Wind last year and am still reading it (it‘s a re-read, so I‘m not rushing through it). 6y
ferskner I reached the halfway point today! It's so good, but I can't believe how much there is to go. 6y
Librarybelle @ferskner Hooray! I really hope that if I chip at it I will finish it by the end of the year. 6y
susanw @Godmotherx5 Ohh I want to read that one too!! So many chunksters. 6y
Godmotherx5 @susanw I know! I‘m a slow reader & there I am with the big books. I think finishing them is my version of a runner‘s high. 6y

Day 2 of #TheYearofWAP and pleased with my progress. Who knew #WarandPeace opens with an exciting society soirée? The intelligentsia are mingling. Men are being men...mansplaining, condescending, and bored with everyone, especially their wives. Prince Vassily is the only male saving grace: “Nothing is so necessary for a young man as the company of intelligent women.” You know it, Vassily!

(Pictured: my homemade “cast list” bookmark...very handy)

398.2 The bookmark is a great idea! 6y
TheWordJar @398.2 I thank Oprah for having an Anna Karenina characters bookmark when I read that. My WAP one is not pretty to look at (just laminated scans of the list in the book), but nice to have when sooo many characters are introduced in the beginning! 6y

Starting War and Peace today (and hopefully eventually finishing it). Look how serious I am...a notebook AND sticky notes! 🤓 I‘d love to do a buddy read or read along, but I‘m too much of a “fits and starts” reader to do this in a group. So, I‘m just giving myself all of 2018 to finish this #chunkster, and I‘ll try to post my progress under #TheYearofWAP. Feel free to use the tag (and tag me!) if you‘re reading this too and need to commiserate!

Librarybelle I‘m reading this too this year and plan to take my time. I‘ll try and remember to use the tag too! 6y
TheWordJar @Librarybelle Awesome! 🙌 Hopefully we can all help each other through! 6y
ferskner I'm in! I'm about 500 pages in - 2017 was supposed to be my year of WaP, but... 6y
TheWordJar @ferskner Woo! 500 pages in is awesome! I‘m only on page 15 so far, but ahead of my schedule of 4 pages a day 😂 (I‘m giving myself literally the whole year...I‘m a slow reader!). 6y
