I'm loving seeing all y'all's #Top10oftheDecade #NonfictionEdition! 😊❤️ Here are mine! I counted the March trilogy as one book. 😂 I started this decade 15 years old and I'm ending it 25 years old, so I picked only books that have formed who I am today and changed how I look at the world and directed my call to diaconal ministry in the church. Some of these could have easily turned into more than 1 by the same author, but I resisted! @Cinfhen

Cinfhen Wow! That‘s amazing 😉 you‘re only 25! #SuperWoman 💕🙌🏻 (edited) 4y
Emilymdxn Fantastic choices!! I went with the same criteria for my list but you phrased it better lol. This decade I went from 13 to 23, pivoted my ‘life‘s purpose‘ from creative professions to outreach work, watched Britain make some Questionable Decisions and I tried to think about the books that guided me through all that 4y
alisiakae Great choices!! 4y

Riveted_Reader_Melissa I‘ve read 6 of these (again counting the March trilogy as 1 book) all great books! 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Emilymdxn I‘ve watched the United States make some “Questionable Decisions” this decade too (I love the way you phrased that) and yes, it definitely led me to some interesting and great reads to guide me through too! 4y
Graywacke Great list. I a little surprised how young you (and @Emilymdxn ) are! 🙂Thinking about how powerful books were to me in my late teens and twenties. Yeah, formative... 4y
caffeinated.wayfarer I will be putting some of these on my to-read list. 4y

It occurred to me that I seem to rave enthusiastically about every book I read here. That‘s because I don‘t usually talk about my bails! A friend lent me this and I tried but I just can‘t do it. I‘m sure it‘s good, but apocalyptic novels just make me too uncomfortable. I can handle the post apocalyptic civilisation novel if the setting/community has developed and it‘s no longer bleak/barren - but otherwise this genre is my kryptonite. 😱

merelybookish I liked this but get your aversion to dystopian. I tend to avoid it. My kryptonite is anything described as "feel good". 6y
Cinfhen Oh wow!!! It‘s weird because I found this book hopeful in the end...and it made me think long & hard about what would I miss most and what do I take for granted!!! I think you would like this one, Jo!! Go find your cape and try again #SuperWoman ❤️😘 6y
Centique @merelybookish I know what you mean! 6y

LeahBergen @merelybookish I hear ya. 😂😂 6y
Centique @Cinfhen 😂😂 I‘ll get my cape ready! For me it‘s not so much whether it feels hopeless or hopeful, I just itch being in that setting and want to be anywhere else. I think I just like rich settings, even if there‘s horror or tragedy in them. 6y
Centique @merelybookish also anything described as “gossipy” puts me off 😝 @LeahBergen 6y
merelybookish @Cinfhen I agree! I found it quite moving. The museum in particular! 6y
merelybookish @Centique @LeahBergen Ha! 🖤🖤 Unite! 6y
Cinfhen I respect that, so I‘ll give u a pass 😘as for my kryptonite YA @merelybookish @LeahBergen I lived through enough teenage angst with myself & my daughter ( boys ~ just a bit) DON‘T want to read about it😂😂 (edited) 6y
LeahBergen @merelybookish @Centique We sound like a bunch of curmudgeons. 😆 6y
merelybookish @Cinfhen I get it! I can manage about one YA book a year. 6y
merelybookish @LeahBergen There are worse things! 🤷And to be fair, we love sentimental girl books. We aren't monsters. 👼 6y
Centique @LeahBergen @merelybookish we‘re the nicest curmudgeons! 😊 6y
Centique @Cinfhen fair enough! I probably didn‘t do enough angst back then 😂 My daughter (13) might catch me up though. 😳😘 6y
Reggie Wow and I think of this as one of the least bleak, most hopeful apocalyptic novels out there. On the bleak scale of 1-10, The Road from McCarthy reads a 100 while Station 11 rates maybe a 3. Lol 6y
Centique @Reggie I might be using the wrong word when I say bleak. I probably mean barren. Empty landscapes and such. I‘ve been told The Road is the zenith of apocalyptic novels so I know not to go there! 😂 6y
Smrloomis @Reggie I have to completely agree about The Road. When I started it, I was unprepared. Holy #$@%*+!!! Decided to finish it but whoa. It‘s good to know one‘s limits and interests @Centique 😂 6y
Smrloomis I loved this but maybe it‘s not for everyone! 6y
SledgeReader @Centique @Cinfhen @LeahBergen @merelybookish Thanks for the great comments on this one. Moving it up on my TBR. (That‘s a topic for another day.) I‘m feeling pulled to reread an old@book group title. We loved it! 6y
Reggie @Smrloomis when I see people on here say they‘re starting it, I usually post- Just know that the sun will not shine for a couple of days. Lol 6y
Centique @Smrloomis you‘re so right! I rarely bail because Im good at finding what I like 😊 A few years of bookshop/library work has that benefit I guess 🙃🙂 6y
Smrloomis @Reggie good policy! I usually don‘t want to know a lot before starting something but The Road was a bit of an exception for me. It was so intense 😳 6y
Smrloomis @Centique 👍🏽😄 6y
Cinfhen That blurb has sucked me right in @SledgeReader and now I‘m sort of curious enough to read The Road @Reggie @Smrloomis 😬 6y
Reggie @Cinfhen just know, that the sun will not shine for a couple of days. 6y
Cinfhen Hahaha @Reggie I NEED SUN so I may have to rethink the read 6y
Cinfhen And this might be a spoiler so I‘m using the spoiler tag but is there incest @Reggie because I can‘t handle that either 😞 6y
Reggie @Cinfhen no there is not. There is just a void where Hope should be. Somewhere along the story you start wondering what the point of surviving in such a world is? 6y
Cinfhen Thanks @Reggie I was getting weird vibes from the blurb ~ I will get to this book, but maybe it‘s more of a winter read!!😘 6y
