The Untelling | Tayari Jones

My favorite contemporary author is Tayari Jones. This is her #sophomorenovel though she's best known for her third book, Silver Sparrow. I cannot wait to read her new book in 2018! #jubilantjuly @RealLifeReading

RadicalReader @MallenNC this sounds like an absolutely wonderful novel. Love discovering new authors and their masterpieces 6y
MallenNC @RadicalReader I love Tayari Jones so I love when people discover her. I hope you like her work! Her new book comes out in early 2018 6y
RadicalReader @MallenNC thanks so much for that tidbit of helpful information. Like the breadcrumbs leading Hansel and Gretle to the candy house in the forest 6y

No sophomore slump for some of my favorite fantasy authors. These three ladies continue to leave me in awe of their world building. I honestly don't know how they do it. #sophomorenovel #jubilantjuly

The Man of My Dreams: A Novel | Curtis Sittenfeld
post image

Curtis Sittenfeld's #sophomorenovel exemplifies the lacklustre follow-up to breakout success. In spite of some impressive advanced praise from Alice Munro on the back!
(Some of the themes in this one are picked up/recycled in Eligible.)

Cinfhen Never even heard of this one☝️ I enjoyed Prep & American Wife but thought SisterLand was awful 7y
merelybookish @Cinfhen I agree. I really like Prep and American Wife but found Sisterland kind of dull. Apparently she's working on a new novel about Hillary Clinton if she hadn't married Bill. 7y
Cinfhen Oh that sounds juicy! I'd like to read that 7y

charl08 Oh I loved this one. Not as much as Prep, of course. 7y
batsy I liked Prep. And I really disliked Eligible, not least for some dodgy race and gender politics in her use of a black character and a trans character 🙁 7y
merelybookish @batsy oh yes, 💯 %! It was liberal tokenism at its worst! I have lots of thoughts on that book and CS in general. (Started an article on her but it didn't get finished.) 7y
batsy @merelybookish Oh yes please! I hope you do finish it so we can read it 👍😇 7y

I absolutely loved her debut novel, and I can't wait to get my hands on her #sophomorenovel when it hit the shelves #jubilantjuly

What would Anne think of this cover for her #sophomorenovel? 😱 #sophomorenovel #jubilantjuly

TheLondonBookworm Hmmm looks a bit like Taylor Swift 😂 7y
Birdsong28 Thats a bit different to the cover I had when I read it!! But it is nice, probably will make more people read it as it doesn't look 'old and stuffy' and like something new.📖📚 7y
britt_brooke @TheLondonBookworm I thought the same thing! 7y

Sace Being the old cranky crank that I am I have to say that a cover like that would keep me from buying the book. 🙁 7y
Wife Not feeling this cover!😐 7y
MicheleinPhilly @Sace You're not alone there. 😒 7y
LeahBergen What the HELL? That's hideous. 7y
Sace What @LeahBergen said. 😂 7y
Lcsmcat I'm with @Sace, this would totally push me away from this book. 7y
rubyslippersreads @iSace @Wife @MicheleinPhilly @LeahBergen @Lcsmcat I agree—it reminds me of that tacky Anne of Green Gables cover I posted awhile back. 7y
rubyslippersreads @TheLondonBookworm @britt_brooke I didn't notice that when I first posted it, but now I do. 7y
rubyslippersreads @Birdsong28 I prefer a more traditional cover, but this book was considered pretty scandalous when it first came out, and this woman certainly looks scandalous. 😄 7y
Jess_Read_This @TheLondonBookworm I was just going to say the same thing!! When did Taylor Swift model for book covers?! 😂 7y
heikemarie I agree it looks like Taylor Swift and it would totally throw me off from buying the book! 7y
erzascarletbookgasm No! No! No! 👎🏼 7y
Caroline2 What a weird cover?! A modern pop princess wanna be on the cover of a Bronte novel?!? What the?? 🤦🏻‍♀️ 7y
batsy Nooo. I can understand updating a cover but why does it have to look like a generic perfume ad 😝 7y

Between, Georgia | Joshilyn Jackson

Joshilyn Jackson is one of those authors who I don't think of as being a favorite, but when I look at her bibliography I realize that I have read most of her books and really enjoyed them. Her #sophomorenovel is not one that gets talked about much, but it's the only one I own, the only one I've read more than once, and it's one I really have a soft spot for. #jubilantjuly

Eleanor & Park | Rainbow Rowell

#SophomoreNovel #JubilantJuly While figuring out which book to use for this post, I came across several articles about how writing a second book is so different from the first one. I'm glad Rowell was able to write such an amazing second novel, especially a YA title. Every time I'm in a bookstore and see that Rowell has a new book out, I become so giddy and can't wait to check it out.
@RealLifeReading

Librariana She's an auto-buy author for me 😊 I don't care what she's writing, I'll buy it. Where I *might* make an exception is with Runaways (Marvel graphic novel); I might be borrowing that from the library. And I am still holding on to Landline and Carry On, tho... mostly just to know that I have some Rainbow on reserve 😄 But I'd like to read at least one before her November release of 7y
sprainedbrain Great choice! I love everything Rainbow! 7y
britt_brooke E&P 💚 7y
Blaire I loved this book - it's the only one of hers that I've read. 7y
ABrakes85 I loved this ❤️ 7y
