Pickpick

For such a small book, only 224pges, it sure packs a lot in. It has 4 distinct parts, the 1st with prehistoric man, the 2nd the finding of the slab on the moon, 3rd the journey with HAL the homicidal AI then the evolution of the star child. It reminds me a great deal of the movie Contact with Jodi Foster it some ways, the last section particularly. Its one of those books that I‘ll find myself thinking about for a long time.5⭐️ #MarchUnshelfing

Clwojick Way to go! 4y
vivastory You probably already know this, but Clarke wrote this based on Kubrick's film. One of the earlier, & probably more well-known, novelizations of a movie. 4y
vivastory Well I should say he wrote it as kubrick was making his movie & then published it afterwards* 4y

Mehso-so

This book should have been a five star read as it contains all the elements I generally love in NF: family, history, religion, conflict, secrets and told in a narrative style. However, I just couldn‘t warm up to this one😞I think the author took on too much, she came across as bitter & judgmental & her father (now a she) who was the main focus of the book was such a difficult person, it was HARD to sympathize with her. Challenge prompts below👇🏼

BarbaraBB Bummer. But you did Hungary! 4y
Cinfhen I did!! @BarbaraBB and I‘m happy to pass this along to you or anyone else who might be interested in reading this memoir 4y

BarbaraBB Thanks ❤️. I do have this one lined up already however! 4y
KT1432 I may do this one for Hungary as well, as I have nothing else lined up for it so far lol, and it sounds pretty interesting... 4y
KT1432 Oooh actually maybe I‘ll do that one @BarbaraBB! 4y
BarbaraBB @lele1432 haha, choices choices! I try to read as many books from my shelves as possible and this one has been sitting there way too long! 4y
Cinfhen If you decide you‘d like this book @lele1432 let me know 😁 4y
Librarybelle Yay to cross off Hungary from the list! 4y
Megabooks I have this as an audiobook. I need to listen for no other reason than Hungary. On part 6/17 of Chernobyl now, though! 4y
Cinfhen I listened to book and audio @Megabooks and it was a bit of a slog. I‘ll be curious to hear your thoughts. 4y
Megabooks @Cinfhen interesting...Chernobyl goes back and forth between the personnel and their activities and the scientific situation. It changes with the chapters, so it would be possible to skip the scientific parts if you‘re more interested in the human element. 4y
Cinfhen I think that‘s what @trishb was trying to tell me @Megabooks which is probably what I‘ll do 💗 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Sounds interesting even if it was just so-so for you. 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage This one‘s on my list and Kindle. Glad to have your review! (edited) 4y
