1-11-26: My 3rd finished book of 2026! Cher, what can you say about her? I‘ve loved her for years. Moonstruck and Mermaids are two of my favorite films. But this memoir, which is part 1, is all about her early years. Rough upbringing. Sonny and Cher making TV history and touring around the world. It ends on the note that movies will be in the next book so I‘m looking forward to that one more.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️📖#️⃣3️⃣

Cher has had an incredible career, spanning 7 decades. You‘d think her biography would be a great read.
Sadly, Cher needs to either sack her editor, or her ghost writer, or her own verbosity. This memoir focuses far too much on unnecessary detail. There also seems to be little responsibility taken for her own actions; I don‘t really like the Cher of this book.

A detailed —or rather, overly detailed — memoir. (Ex. 100 pages in, Cher is still only 15 years old.) Some interesting tidbits here and there, but way too much about her clothes. I feel like I learned about every dress, pair of shoes, crop top and bell-bottomed jeans she ever wore. Probably won‘t read part 2. (Or 3? How many of these are on tap?)

I realised listening to this that I am not really much of a Cher fan - I know very few of her songs, have hardly seen any of her movies and only knew of her marriage to Sonny. She has had an interesting life with many financial and personal ups and downs, it would appear. I will probably listen to part two but did not inspire me to listen to her music. Her outfits are probably the most interesting aspect to me.

3½ ✨

I always feel bad rating memoirs low, because how do you judge someone's life story?
But there was just too much in this one that worked on my nerves, to name a few things:
There's so much mundane details, begin repeated over and over again. Eating habits for one.
Another thing was the duel narration, while I appreciate why Cher decided on doing it this way, the changeover always caught my ear and it broke the flow in my opinion.

TheAromaofBooks To me, liking or disliking a memoir is kind of like whether or not you enjoy hanging out with someone... sometimes you just don't click!! 10mo
Enchanted_Bibliophile @TheAromaofBooks This is such a good way to look at it. From now on I'm adapting to your view. 🤗 10mo

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ On pins and needles for “part two” out later this year! This was a lot of detail, but so immersive, like I was on the periphery eaves dropping on her life. The audiobook introduces each chapter with a Cher-narrated anecdote, then passes the duties to Stephanie Block who seamlessly takes over. Early life through the 70s. She saw and experienced a ton in those years; was in the midst of so much pop culture history. Fascinating!

Leftcoastzen It‘s on my stack ! Nice review. 11mo

This memoir gave me a coveted backstage pass to hang out with the fashionably coolest, powerfully inspiring, fearlessly honest & hilariously outspoken global icon. No wonder I‘m still smiling! I grew up on Cher‘s music & TV show—and she‘s still impacting us all with her compassion, resistance, resilience & truth. The stories behind Cher‘s relationships with Sonny & Gregg Allman are mind-boggling. Her mesmerizing eyes made the perfect endpapers.

MemoirsForMe Thank you @PurpleyPumpkin for sending me what is truly my favorite Memoir of the Year. And it‘s only Feb! 🤗❤️ 11mo
MemoirsForMe Got to see Sonny & Cher onstage at the Sahara in Las Vegas in 1973. My sister and I lucked out and met them before the show at a restaurant. They graciously gave us their autograph pictured here.☺️ 11mo

TheBookgeekFrau I saw Sonny & Cher in 1975. We got to back stage after and my mother was like a nervous, giggling fool because she loved Cher. I now know I witnessed my first fan girling and it didn't even have a name yet 😂😂 I got her this book for Christmas; needless to say she loved it! 11mo
