Can you come up with not-so-heavy books, more uplifting or positive than I usually read. Still want to have a solid story, no harlequins or mindless reads, if you catch my drift. Everything I want to read is so heavy nonfiction, murders, world going to hell kind of books, therefore I need help!
AshleyHoss820 When I need a brain break, I usually go with the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich or some sweeping epic, like How Green Was My Valley or The Thorn Birds. 😊 6y

Don't start at the beginning of the Discworld series, though, because those aren't his best, and you don't really need to read the whole series in order anyway. The witches books are fabulous, and Word Sisters is one of his best. If you like mysteries or police procedural steps, any of his City Watch books are great.Wyrd Sisters Discworld series 6y

I Capture the CastleAimeesue @Tove_Reads I'm not a reader of fantasy novels, really, but Pratchett is sort of beyond that. More satire + humanism + moral dilemmas + humour. Pratchett's what I reach for when I'm in a reading slump or need a laugh. Great palate cleansers! (edited) 6y

Aimeesue @Tove_Reads There are certainly a lot of fantastic *elements*, like witches, and wizards (bumbling, ineffective ones, basically) and trolls, but it's really used satirically, to reflect on human foibles in a flat out funny way. Pratchett and Gaiman are pretty much the only "fantasy" authors I read, because they both have a foot solidly in the human. 6y
Chrissyreadit @Tove_Reads Do you like historical fiction? I like Susannah Kearsley - one of my favs is The Winter Sea. For lighter, I just read Fangirl, and although not completely light I loved Eleanor and Park- both by Rainbow Rowell. I like Sara Addison Allen for light also - some magical realism. And if you are interested in American History nonfiction, Women‘s Diaries of the Westward Journey was good. I loved The Color of Water by James McBride. 6y
