@Avanders and @Heideschrampf
It has taken FOREVER, but I finally put together my swap and it will finally be on its way tomorrow! Explanation for the delay was already mailed/is in a letter inside. My apologies for keeping you waiting for so long!!
My swap was also finally delivered today, thank you!

oOArankaOo @Heideschrampf I just unpacked my swap, and I LOVE it!! I'll be sending you some more goodies later, because I feel SO spoilt! 💕💕 5mo
Avanders 🤗♥️🥰🤗♥️🥰 5mo
Heideschrampf I‘m glad it finally arrived and you liked it! I hope i found things to match your taste and you haven‘t read the mocking bird already since it‘s such a classic, but i liked the edition so much 😘 5mo
oOArankaOo @Heideschrampf I actually have, because many of my students do their oral exam about the book, but I still LOVE this edition (I didn't actually own the book, lol). And I really do like everything 💕💕 The USB might be my favourite thing next to the book 🙈🙈🙈 5mo
Heideschrampf I‘m just glad you like it 😍 it just happened that i had a lot of your TBR list as mp3s, so i thought i‘s give it a try ;) 5mo

For the #shakespearereadalong of #thewinterstale, Adrien Brody would be my Leontes! I think he's tick all the boxes for this part: attractive, regal, charming, paranoid, desparate. He can do it all!

I keep forgetting American weeks start on a Sunday #Europeanproblems
Wasn't planning on much reading today, but I did start a #readingjournal, because I'm hoping that this play will give me similar epiphanies to Othello. Iago's "I am not what I am" almost literally made my jaw drop, and I want to record these moments for A Winter's Tale!

It's taken quite a while to finish, because I basically lost interest after the chapters on historical linguistics. Yes, wordplay and swearing are part of a language, but not nearly as riviting as HOW English developed, i.m.o.
So I'm happy it's done and I can now enjoy it as a reference for historical linguistics. Because it'll be useful, I made it a pick, although just for reading I would consider it only slightly above so-so.

I love how this book is challenging me intellectually, because I know absolutely nothing about astrophysics but think it's a very interesting subject. I am beginning to think that I might have to give it a try in Dutch, however. Language can be ao confusing xD I'm starting to see how maths can be clear language 😂

GingerAntics Love this guy. 8mo
oOArankaOo @GingerAntics Definitely! Can't read without hearing his voice, although that's simultaneously annoying as well since he speaks slower than I read 🤣 8mo
GingerAntics Oh yeah, he does speak very slowly and clearly. He‘s actually one of the people I try to study and emulate for lectures and presentations, but I feel like I would have to put him on 2x speed like I do with audiobooks or something. That‘s a really good point. His speech patterns are great for explaining things, but not so hot when you‘re reading. 8mo

Fellow #teachersoflitsy, I need your help! I want to prepare a short syllabus (historical context, theatre development, meta stuff about the play, actual lines and summaries etc.) on MoV for my advanved ESL students. Which of the books above or others would you recommend I use as reference?
Thanks!!!

GingerAntics The RSC/Modern Library editions have all of that along with the text of the play in one volume. It‘s not exhaustive by any means, but it‘s a good starting point. I like having all of that in one volume. 10mo
oOArankaOo @GingerAntics I'm not looking for something exhaustive, so that's not a problem. I'll look into the RSC editions - so far the Folgers editions are highly recommended (and available for cheap, lol), so I'm starting with those. 10mo
GingerAntics I‘m not sure how they compare price wise, I‘ve never looked into that. Sometimes you can get them in stories, but the easiest way to get them is through amazon. 10mo
oOArankaOo @GingerAntics Unfortunately Amazon isn't very big in the Netherlands, so price and especially availability can be questionable for some ESL resources (and many other books) here. 10mo

If anything, I thought the book a little too short. There were time lapses which I would have loved to have read about, as they wpuld jave shown even more of these loveable characters. Somehow the story doesn't feel quite as rounded as it might otherwise have been. Nevertheless, an enjoyable, light read!

I'm so glad I read this book at this busy, messy, full-speed-ahead adult time in my life. It reminded me of the absolute magic of books, and how magical being enraptured by a story used to feel. I think there are many things in this story which you'll appreciate much more as an adult, but I know younger me would've DEVOURED this book had she'd had a chance to read it. Reminders and lessons for adults and children alike. 5/5⭐

@readinginthedark #Shakespearereadalong
Finished Act 1 earlier this week, and as much as Iago is an unlikeable character, I also love how true to form Shakespeare makes him. In line 65 he already tells the audience, "I am not what I am". Act 1 is then perfectly closed off by Iago's double crossing-monologue. You may not like him, but you can't say he didn't warn you!
TBC ⬇️

oOArankaOo I also love all the nautical references, so well thought out with so many seafaring characters and the setting in Venice. It shows understanding of how big a role the sea played in this location and its inhabitants' lives. 13mo
oOArankaOo Had a hard time distinguishing different speech modes though, but that could be because I've never seen an actual play performed, so I'm not quite sure what it's supposed to sound like. And according to my edition, there are some remarkable differences in line delivery between Iago and Othello. 13mo
readinginthedark Yes! Great points! I think Iago has also changed with his disappointment. He feels that Othello wrongfully passed him up for Casseo‘s position, and now his whole life revolves around this revenge! 13mo
GingerAntics Good point. He did warn us all that he was a scoundrel. 13mo

Pickpick

🌟🌟🌟🌟1/2
You don't become invested in the characters as much as as you did in the two previous books if this trilogy, but to counterbalance that Follett offers a great, filmic journey through one of England's most turbulent periods of history. The characters we follow are still very likeable, but the several leaps in years forward mean less attachment to them.
TBC in comments!

oOArankaOo The great expanse of space covered also makes it feel more superficial than the other books, because there are hardly any places you can connect with during the narrative. That being said, Follett's writing is still very engaging, there are wonderful pieces of actual history worked into the narrative, and even at 700+ pages, it's a really enjoyable read!! 13mo

Happy bday, Fred&George!
Look what @emily_m_tubb got me! I now have my very own wand, and that tote is PERFECTION! That's coming to puppy classes once pupper's here 🐶❤ (will be another while though). Love all my goodies, thank you Emily! 😙
Hopefully your #potterheadswap will arrive soon; the tracking is telling me nothing 😭

emily_m_tubb I'm so glad you like everything! It's been so much fun shopping and making things for you 😄 I'm sure my parcel will arrive soon, the Easter holiday has probably held it up 😂 I will let you know as soon as it arrives 😄 14mo

Pickpick

Loved (re-reading) this book! So many nice, filmic scenes, combined with steampunk and Victorian London. Win-win-win.
All marked up and ready to go its merry way tommorow for #round002 of #LMPBC!

Simona Yey, my book for a break between reading Man Booker longlist 😍 14mo
ephemeralwaltz Excited!!!! I don't think I've ever read Steampunk 14mo
