Happy World Book Day! I picked these up second hand at my local indie bookstore recently. Hopefully they are as good as they look.

1. I have lived all over and I think a small city with lots of greenspace is the right place for me. I have a backyard view of a tree lined creek, but there are still bookstores, coffeeshops, concerts and festivals.
2. At one time I'd have said I'd never come back to Kentucky to live, but I love it here in Lexington.

This short book is very concise and covers every aspect for someone looking to buy a draft horse, but it doesn‘t provide much detail and was not very fun to read.
I wanted more about the history of draft horses, and more about the different types. I really wanted more photos.
1/5 I don‘t recommend except for a very horse obsessed girl who can‘t find other books on the topic.
This is an amazing book narrated by a horse named Joey during WWI. Joey does different jobs and ends up traveling a lot during the course of the war. It touches on some hard topics and has some truly sad scenes, but it also has a happy ending.

James I want to get to and think it will probably make for good discussions.
The others are in my ‘books to look out for folder!‘

I only like the idea of horses in real life, but this Horse and the other characters, particularly Theo and Jarret, tugged at my heartstrings and brought tears to my eyes. Who knew the story of a horse (Lexington) would have such an impact on me? This is a story about horse racing and race in America, and it is extremely well done. The book is both sad and triumphant in turns, and I thoroughly enjoyed the tale. 🐎🎧
This was a fun read, better than the 2nd book in the series. The characters grew a lot and while it‘s irritating that the series is kind of parallel, if you read them all at once I imagine it‘s fun.
Anne must decide if she‘s been honest with herself or if Hart, whom she loves to hate, is correct and she‘s lost herself to her mother‘s grief. Hidden families, witty flirtation through writing and horses makes this complex and fun.
4.5/5 stars
Interesting presentation at the senior center today about animals in the Civil War. (Spoiler alert: no elephants were involved.) Here‘s the same presentation a few months ago at a different venue. https://youtu.be/lPijg-c0lvI?si=T0M1yIxG0ZxizbfK

This was an important book for me as a child. One of the few books with a “Native American“ storyline, and my childhood self understood the rarity.
While not from my ancestral tribes, this was a story from my ancestral world. I loved this story and would spend untold hours studying the illustrations.
Just reread this, and the story is still as profound to me today as it had been all those many years ago. I've fallen in love all over again. 👇
