After seeing his illustrations for The Day the Crayons Quit last week, I‘m on an Oliver Jeffers kick. In addition to this book, I have two more children‘s books both written and illustrated by Jeffers waiting near the top of my TBR list. Read my full review here: https://debbybrauer.org/#here-we-are-notes-for-living-on-plan...

Thndrstd Have you read Stuck? My daughter and I love that one 2y
JoyBlue @Thndrstd I don't believe I have. I'll check it out soon. Thanks for the recommendation!!!! 💙 2y

#here #booked2021
I had not read gaskell before and today dashed up to take a photo of her home in my home city.
This is a picture of class division in 1840's Manchester where the life of the poor is cheap while the factory owners thrive but chartism+unions in their infancy seek to establish equality. A melodrama that while dated had me hooked but as a social history I was fascinated.

TrishB Great post 👍🏻 3y
andrew61 @TrishB thanks Trish, and my wife wondered why I was so long at aldi this morning, didn't think I could explain the diversion for this photo. 3y

Started out good, finished great. Friendships between women, social media, professional and creative jealousy, racism and shadeism in entertainment, who owns ideas/creative output in a collaboration? So many thoughts and ideas in a small package.

And so so so much Toronto. The Toronto I know and love. #Booked2021 #Here/Hear @Cinfhen @4thhouseontheleft @BarbaraTheBibliophage

Cinfhen Ohhhh, I‘m fully intrigued 🥰 3y
Cinfhen Is it YA?? 3y
TheKidUpstairs @Cinfhen nope, not YA 3y
Cinfhen Woohoo 🙌🏻 3y

Mehso-so

I‘m a little bit disappointed. I expected, according to the blurb, “the most insightful and timely work on the Balkans to date", but I got political travelogue with few short interviews, some historical facts and some author‘s personal observations of the way people live in Balkan Peninsula. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ #Nonfiction2021 - about hope #Booked2021 #hear #here

Riveted_Reader_Melissa That is disappointing! Sorry 3y
Simona @Riveted_Reader_Melissa It was my fault, I expected too much🤷‍♀️ 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Simona I don‘t think you can blame yourself when it‘s tagged the most insightful, etc, etc and you got a light travel memoir full of author opinions instead. I think they oversold it. 3y

A beautiful book with beautiful writing and a beautiful main character. Cowney is just someone you want to love and protect. Set in Cherokee and the Grove Park Inn, my beautiful Pawpaw was never far from my mind. He wasn't Cherokee, but he was a person I loved and cherished, no matter the color of his skin. I'm proud to be of his bloodline. He was ashamed of being an Indian. Racists made him ashamed. Isn't he beautiful @megnews @sblbooks

CBee Bless his heart ♥️ 3y
Cinfhen Book sounds amazing and photo is wonderful. I love when book characters have a familiar feel 🥰🥰🥰 3y

Cinfhen You‘ve been reading SO MANY interesting books!!! 3y
sblbooks He sure is! I can't wait to read the book. 3y
megnews He is. I‘m so sorry he felt that way. But what a wonderful heritage you have! 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage I‘ve read a bunch of stories with Native American characters and authors lately. This one would be a great addition, especially since it‘s set in the 1940s. Thanks for the heads up! 3y
Butterfinger @megnews It never crossed my mind what he experienced till I read this book.
Thank you for inviting me to read with you. I remembered my Nanny fussing and telling me to stop asking for Indian stories because I could never understand why he wouldn't.

4 🌟 🎧 A good introduction to the AIDS epidemic but I should have found out a bit about Harvey Milk before I started. Also #ownvoices #integrateyourshelf @ChasingOm @Emilymdxn
