The first horror book I can remember reading. Which I did alone in my dorm room at night with a window that overlooked a dark set of train tracks. Wise choice. #allhallowsread #firsthorrorbook #booktober

I'm 43 and my first horror read is a little lost in the mists of time. I am sure I read some Poe stories and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow before I read It but I am pretty sure It was my first real horror novel. #allhallowsread #firsthorrorread #firsthorrorbook

I stole Rosemary's Baby out of my parent's headboard bookcase when I was eleven or twelve. And I loved every creepy second of it! So much! I've read this book at least a dozen times. I love it so much. #firsthorrorbook #allhallowsread

LeahBergen "Headboard bookcase" ? I just had a flashback! 8y
erzascarletbookgasm I recently read this. Very good! 8y
CherylDeFranceschi @LeahBergen Ha! I know! It was so ancient, but I was always jealous because they had books at the head of their bed! 8y

Jen2 This one scared the crap out of me!!! 8y
Gayan I miss my headboard bookcase. 8y
CherylDeFranceschi @Gayan Why aren't they a thing anymore? I want one! 8y
DebinHawaii You are my Rosemary's Baby soul twin! Although my parents had a headboard bookcase, I had to steal my copy of RB from the upper shelves of the tall bookcase in the corner! 📚👍😆 8y
PenguinInFlight I miss my headboard book case!! And my lamp that clipped on my headboard! 😩 LOL. This book scared the bejeepers out of me....I was probably 12 or 13. Right about the same time I discovered Stephen King and John Saul. Even though I'm the world's biggest weenie, I was convinced that I could read scary books. And I could, in well lit rooms during daylight hours. Night time was another story, haha. 😳😂 8y
CherylDeFranceschi @PenguinInFlight Ah yes- the clipboard light. I always burned myself turning mine off- I remember it got really really hot! 8y
CherylDeFranceschi @DebinHawaii Yay! For being Book twins and for having parents that had good books to steal! 😜 8y
PenguinInFlight @CherylDeFranceschi OMG! Yes!! It's a wonder I have any fingerprints left on my thumb and pointer finger from that thing! 😂 8y
Gayan @CherylDeFranceschi I have no idea why they aren't a thing anymore. I absolutely loved sleeping with my books. 8y

APLitlife Had a student today do a project with Pennywise on it, but had no idea who Pennywise was. Just needed a picture of a clown. I had to school him. 8y
Laura317 I need a clown-free zone in my life. Gah!! 8y

This is the #firsthorrorbook I really loved. I liked that Brooks formatted the story in a series of interviews with people who experienced the zombie war first-hand. It made the novel feel so realistic. Also, im not even sure why the movie was called WWZ as they were literally nothing alike. Super strange 🤔#allhallowsread #ruinedbythemovie

LizzyM I had nightmares about zombies the whole time I read it! 8y
Handmade_Redhead I loved this book. I had really hoped the movie would be more like the book, but oh well. 8y
Hooked_on_books I agree! My thought watching the movie was Huh? It seems like the presence of zombies and some character names were the only parallels! 8y
kristina_with_a_k I LOVE LOVE LOVE this movie. The book is very good, but in a different way than the movie. 8y

Different Seasons | Stephen King
post image

Thinking back to my #firsthorrorbook I'm torn between these two books. Different Seasons was my first Stephen King, although it's more drama than horror. Interview was my first true horror book and was quite a departure for me at the time. Now tales of the #supernatural are my favorite genre! #allhallowsread #scaretober

DGRachel I loved Interview. I think it's the first book I ever loaned to a friend and it was almost the last, as it was returned "well-loved". ? #TeamLouis ❤️ 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @DGRachel I hope that means your friend REALLY liked it! 8y
DGRachel @BarbaraTheBibliophage It meant she had to get her own copies of the sequels! 😂😂 8y

prowlix Different seasons was my first Stephen King too! I loved the movie Stand by Me and had to read the novella 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @DGRachel Now that I think about it, I borrowed Interview and bought all the other books! 😜 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @prowlix Both Shawshank and Stand by Me are among my most favorite movies! 8y
Zelma I ❤️ Interview and Anne Rice. I have been contemplating rereading some of her stuff. 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Zelma I am behind on her books, but still regularly contemplate rereading the Mayfair Witch books! 8y
Zelma @BarbaraTheBibliophage I am way behind too. I never read the Mayfair Witches but I adored her vampires. Maybe I'll dive into the witches instead since I'm on a witch kick lately. 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Zelma The Mayfair witch books are amayyyyyzing! Can't wait to hear what you think. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 8y
Zelma @BarbaraTheBibliophage sold! Adding it to my list. 8y

The Unseen is the first horror I remember reading (I will have been around 12/13). After that I read several others in the Point Horror collection.

I loved The Unseen so much that I borrowed it from the library 3 times before buying myself a copy! I have recently discovered that there are sequels... but I'm not sure if I want to risk spoiling this book! 🤔
