Every once in a while, a little diamond 💎 shimmers in the book. This is what is helping me finally finish the book.
Edward Haviland , son of Haviland Porcelain was mentioned.
Each year our Mom gave my two sisters and myself a Haviland ornament. We have a beautiful collection.

Today is the anniversary of artist Francis Picabia‘s death. Like his critics, I enjoyed his Impressionist work the best.
I do think Gabriële was his and others‘ muse.
I just still wish she had pursued her music ?

I decided to return to this book and slog through it before the end of the year. This is the restaurant where Gabriële and Francis Picabia dined with their friends before they sailed to America. It‘s still open today! What an exotic façade!

I‘m reviewing my reading year in preparation for #AuldLangSpine (eek!) and I‘m coming across several that I didn‘t review on Litsy. The Promise did not live up to the expectations I had—it‘s #EuropaEditions and it won the Booker in 2021. Though the set up is good: South Africa, white matriarch dies, grown children return home…will their mother‘s wishes to leave property to a long-time domestic worker, a black woman, be carried out?

And these are the items I purchased at the Brooklyn Book Festival, arranged by publisher. I was disappointed that one of the best publishers of interesting translated books (Restless Books) wasn't there this year.

Once upon a time I went to Paris on my honeymoon and went to the Louvre & Orsay, then 3 years later we went again on a self funded leave from school with a 2 yr old and then again in 2015 with a 16 yr old and an almost 13yr old. This time we made it to Beaubourg. This book is a reward for all my painting. I think I might do a chapter a day with it if anyone wants to join. My painting isn‘t done yet - maybe September 1 start? #europaeditions

Yay! I won a copy of #EuropaEditions Mona‘s Eyes by Thomas Schlesser!! There are fold out pages of the artwork mentioned in the book. I can‘t wait until it arrives!!
