Listen to this mostly on a long drive this weekend. A haunting and original books. Narrator Chris has lost her wife Bo when Bo gives birth to their baby. Unfortunately in this timeline when you harm someone the government gives you an extra shadow as warning to others, so the baby gets one within minutes of being born. Unfortunately for The Kid Chris also has an extra shadow. What are they going to do without Bo?
Very well written with many 👇

ChaoticMissAdventures Plot devices and author choices that make the story feel fresh - like when and whose names she chooses to reveal. I love authors who don't explain their worlds. People get extra shadows from the government. That is all we are given, no fake scientific explanation how this works. The focus is on the humans, our family and how they are treated. And a bit on the government the creeps working for it and the tactics. It is really effective for the story 3d
ChaoticMissAdventures (3/3) there is one twist in the third act I did not see coming which was great but then I found the resolution a bit clunky and rushed and that didn't totally work for me. 3d
Kitta I really enjoyed this one! 2d

When I checked this book out, the librarian said, "Where did you find that? I can't believe we have a copy in!" Then she realized it was my hold I'd gotten from the holds shelf. ? Two chapters in and I can see why my library has over 20 copies in circulation with a 10+ week wait on holds. I'm immediately hooked!

I love the movie and it's taken me this long to read the comic. Both have their pros and cons - I wish the movie could've fleshed out the minority focus more, I wish the comic had more Gordon (Stephen Fry) but both are brilliant.

Got my bingo on my #UnstackMyShelf board! So I treated myself. My buddy read with a friend, an impulse buy, and the next Emily Wilde book! #BookHaul

Seemed like an apt time for a re-read of this book. I read it as a junior in high school, and I have a feeling that I'll grasp the political nuance a lot better this time around.
