Before coffee, before Thune, before retirement, Viv is a mercenary waiting to heal while her band moves against a necromancer. Relaxing in a small sea side town should be easy, right?
I adored this prequel! Seeing Viv‘s backstory was lovely, Fern & her bookstore were a delight, & Satchel was hilarious. It felt a little too quickly resolved, & the epilogue felt a bit sequel bait, but overall I really enjoyed this! Even the romance! 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
To save his family‘s business, Matti is ready to marry a woman he doesn‘t love. Hiring a swordsman to act as his best man for the wedding may create as many problems as it solves.
A really lovely historical romantasy. Matti‘s dedication to his family broke my heart, & I loved the development both in him & in the love story. It is very slow, & I think The Last Binding series is stronger narratively, but the tension is good & paced well.🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
What if it‘s not a prince that rescues Rapunzel, but Jack after his Beanstalk adventures? Together they must face faeries, monsters, & secrets to learn the truth of Rapunzel‘s past & save Jack‘s sister.
This was delightful, if a bit long. It gave me big Gail Carson Levine vibes. There are wonderful little references (Andrew Lang‘s fairy books!) throughout a powerful story about the loss of innocence, standing up for yourself, & family.🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
Fiction and non fiction collected from Marina Keegan‘s published works after her untimely death.
This was lovely. Her nonfiction essays were stronger for me, and I desperately wish more of her poetry was included. Her voice is compassionate and attentive. And I wish we could have seen what she would have done. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
The princess is cursed to die by a spindle, she is stolen away & raised as ordinary. But her fairy gifts cause problems, & there is still the curse to worry about.
The scene setting is unparalleled, as I expected from McKinley, but lord the plot is glacial. I think I would have enjoyed this better as an audiobook as the writing is lush & lyrical. & I wasn‘t invested in the romance. I kept thinking Rosie & Peony should get together.🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑
As part of my New Year‘s Resolution to read a quarter of the books I own but haven‘t read, I‘ve created myself this bingo board!
With the understanding that I am not allowing myself to buy a new book until I have a bingo! I‘ll be using the hashtag #UnstackMyShelf if anybody wants to use this.
@PuddleJumper ‘s #NoBuy2023 challenge was an enormous inspiration for this!
