batsy Oooh 😍😍 I've heard the Cavan book compared to I Capture the Castle so would love to know your thoughts (when you get around to it 😁) 2mo
batsy Also I was ready to add Nothing to Report to my Book Depository wishlist but just realised that I already have the Kindle version 😳😆 2mo
LeahBergen @Tamra @Clwojick @Melissa_J I always love their covers! 2mo
LeahBergen @saresmoore Doesn‘t it sound fab? That first sentence of the description! 😆 2mo
LeahBergen @quietjenn I‘m becoming a big fan! 2mo

Mrs. Tim Carries on | D. E. Stevenson
post image

And on to the second Mrs. Tim book. I can‘t resist a novel told in diary form. 😍

#FurrowedMiddlebrow
#DeanStreetPress

RachelO This sounds great! I feel like I should have heard of D.E.Stevenson... 5mo
LeahBergen @RachelO She‘s one of those forgotten mid-twentieth century authors brought back by Persephone Books (and now Dean Street Press). She‘s probably more well-known now for Miss Buncle‘s Book? 5mo
RachelO @LeahBergen Maybe that‘s it. Looks like our library service never forgot about her though - they seem to have dozens of her books in large print. I‘ll go investigate! 5mo

Melissa_J What‘s the name of the first book? 5mo
LeahBergen @Melissa_J Or some of the older editions are just called Mrs Tim. 5mo
LeahBergen @RachelO i think she wrote right up into the 1970s! Let me know what you track down. 😄 5mo
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks So pretty ❤️❤️ 4mo
Suet624 I love that style as well. 4mo
elkeo_TheBookDragon I need to find the first Mrs Tim - I have heard such good things! 4mo

Alice | Elizabeth Eliot
post image

A Sunday afternoon spent reading another oldie which is, happily, turning out to be darkly comic and unputdownable.

This 1949 novel has recently been republished in the Furrowed Middlebrow series by #DeanStreetPress. 👏🏻👏🏻

Melissa_J I‘m just over here admiring your teacup 😊 6mo
shawnmooney Oooh, off to check the book and its publisher out!😘 6mo
saresmoore What Shawn said! 6mo

ShyBookOwl Love the cover art 6mo
rubyslippersreads I just bought this ebook, but yours is so much prettier. 😍 6mo
Tonton Furrowed Middlebrow !😎 6mo
batsy Lovely cover! And "darkly comic and unputdownable" is music to my ears ? 6mo
Cathythoughts I‘m stacking too ♥️👍🏻 6mo
Aimeesue After seeing this post yesterday, I looked to see if there was an ebook. There is! I'd rather have a hard copy, but alas, there's so little room on my shelves. The ebook is $3.99 in the US. 6mo
LeahBergen @Melissa_J It‘s one of my newest and in heavy rotation at the moment. 😆 6mo
LeahBergen @shawnmooney I think you‘d like some of the Furrowed Middlebrow books. 👍🏻 6mo
LeahBergen @saresmoore And I think you‘d like them, too! 😘 6mo
LeahBergen @ShyBookOwl It‘s lovely, isn‘t it? 😊 6mo
LeahBergen @rubyslippersreads @Aimeesue I really like that they offer their ebooks for a good deal when they republish these forgotten books. 👍🏻 6mo
LeahBergen @Tonton I love them (and Furrowed Middlebrow blog, too 👍🏻). 6mo
LeahBergen @batsy @Cathythoughts It‘s a strangely appealing little book (so far!) 6mo
Aimeesue "The Principal, Miss Hartley-Jones, said that she would be very pleased to have me as a pupil, and that she was sure I would be very happy with them. She mentioned that of course all her pupils were gentlewomen. I was beginning to wonder where really common people learned to type. Maybe they just picked it up for themselves." Hahahahahaha! This book is very Mitfordish. I'm enjoying it! (edited) 6mo
LeahBergen @Aimeesue It‘s a quirky one, isn‘t it? 😆 Look closely at this photo of my cover when you get to the description of Alice‘s favourite painting. It‘s almost exactly what‘s described! 6mo
Aimeesue @LeahBergen It‘s EXACTLY the painting! 6mo

A Winter Away | Elizabeth Fair

Young Maud has #GoneAway to the countryside to avoid her overbearing stepmother and lands a job cataloguing the library of the the crotchety Mr. Feniston. She soon finds herself embroiled with his (younger male) relations and other villagers in this 1957 comedy of domestic life.

LeahBergen @AlaMich It does sound good, doesn‘t it? I should really read it soon. 😆 10mo
LeahBergen @britt_brooke I do, too (and I can get a bit crotchety myself every now and then 😉). 10mo
LeahBergen @Ruthiella Yes! I always love any of the “forgotten author” publishers. 😆 10mo
LeahBergen @emilyhaldi I‘m hoping I enjoy these as I bought them all for a good deal without reading the author before. 😆 Well, I DID read bits of them all before purchasing so I should be safe. 🤞🏻 Have you read any Angela Thirkell? She seems to be frequently compared to her (I‘m a Thirkell fan). 10mo
TrishB These look lovely 💕 10mo
CarolynM I'm going to have try this one and see if it's up to the Thirkell standard😀 10mo
batsy I know I said this all the time in your comments, but what a pretty cover! 😆 10mo
erzascarletbookgasm What a pretty collection! Another author I don‘t know 🙈 but I‘ll be looking her up! Are these like Frances Brody type of books? 10mo
saresmoore I just purchased one of hers in ebook form, and it was still the pretty cover that convinced me, though I won‘t be able to see it while I‘m reading. 🙃 10mo
quietjenn I really love her books! 10mo
britt_brooke @LeahBergen Yeah, me, too. 😬 10mo
emilyhaldi Nope! Haven't read Thirkell but I will be looking into her too!! 10mo
AlaMich @LeahBergen I like Thirkell too, so I should really check these out! 10mo
rubyslippersreads Sounds like a “new” author to collect. 😊 10mo
LauraBeth More than anyone else on Litsy, you‘ve introduced me to authors I‘ve never heard before ❤️ 10mo
LeahBergen @LauraBeth 😆 Is that a good thing or a bad thing? 😘😘 10mo
