Look what I‘m reading, @Centique . You were the last person to post about this book … 8 years ago. 😆
A young girl discovers that she can visit the past while riding her pony, Candy (aka Candlelight). I can‘t resist a vintage time-slip story!

Can you guess who I chose to research for my children's illustrator biography assignment? 🤓
Somehow I never read this myself or to either of my kids. I decided to pick it up for #192025 and it was a really cute and calming this weekend while I was sick. (Published 1926)

Yesterday we visited Lindsay's home and art studios. The cockatoos were enjoying the gardens!

Here you go @merelybookish this is the very colourful childrens author Margaret Mahy who wrote over 100 picture books as well as a couple of dozen novels. She was also a librarian and dedicated to growing young readers. She would be the most well know author in NZ because everyone (around my age at least) grew up reading her books.
Fiona returns to live with her grandparents on the beloved Western Isles of her birth. When she visits her family‘s former home on the island of Ron Mor, she‘s sure she sees a glimpse of her baby brother, who disappeared when her family left the island four years before. Such a sweet, lovely story of family and return, with hints of myth and magic—enhanced by Fry‘s drawings throughout. So glad I picked this as my 1957 book for #192025.
This was a gift from a friend who knows my partner and I adore cats. And what a charming read it was. This poem by Nancy Willard stood out to me: “Most Merciful Seer who saw an angel and let it pass.” What a beautiful unexpected gem!
