The Guardian has an interesting article about books people read during the different lockdowns. I found some of my reads! It‘s fascinating that at the beginning of this whole pandemic, people were determined to read long & more complicated ‚classics‘, but soon many switched over to comfort reads, like Sally Rooney of cookbooks.

ravenlee I remember seeing a lot of people talking about learning instruments and languages, reading classics, and similar projects - and claiming that if you couldn‘t do that sort of stuff you don‘t have any initiative/work ethic. But we all quickly realized we didn‘t have the attention span at the time, as the whole world was in flux. I know it took me a couple months to be able to concentrate on anything at all, and it‘s still a challenge. 2y

He‘s really honest in this title for a speech turned article from 1998/1999. Still, it‘s totally worth the read. I adore his writing, even when it‘s a speech. He just always seems to be telling you a story, one way or the other.

Finding Winnie | Lindsay Mattick

Is an adorable HF about the bear who inspired Winnie the Pooh! The book take place in 1914 where a soldier Harry rescue a baby bear cub, names her Winnie, and takes her with him to war! I don‘t want to give away too much because this book is a must read, especially if you love Winnie the Pooh! This is HF so it‘s a great book to read in a class that is learning about WW1. EL: 17 will be great for this book as the pictures in it are amazing, the

Noelle5 Illustrations won the Caldecott Medal! UDL: 1.1 offer different ways of customizing the display of information- I could really put emphasis on the illustrations while I‘m reading. They really have that WW1 feel to them and it is a great visual of what‘s going on in the text. https://www.abebooks.com/blog/#article/23597 this website is all about why Finding Winnie won the Caldecott medal, check it out! 6y
Laura.S @Noelle5 this book looks like a great read! I assume most kids have heard of Winnie the Pooh and would really make for some great connections. I love to find books with great illustrations because they just make it so much more engaging! 6y
DrSpalding Make sure your resource is hyperlinked. I adore this book and feel it is important that children know that Winnie the Pooh was a real bear! 6y

March: Book Two | Andrew Aydin, John Lewis
post image
Pickpick

A lot covered in under 200 pages. Violence, imprisonment, and pressure from allies to slow down or change course. I really like that the original draft of Lewis's speech to the March on Washington was included at the end of the book. #marchinmarch @Merethebookgal @TheNextBook

Donna_sBookMinute Yes. He had to go along with them to get even a part of his message out. I think he made a great recovery. I was glad to read the original speech too. I found a website that displays both speeches in parallel. Of course I printed them so I could mark the changes. Here's the article: http://billmoyers.com/content/two-versions-of-john-lewis-speech/ 7y
diovival @Donna_sBookMinute Thank you for sharing the link! I couldn't get the video on the page to work but found the Moyers episode with John Lewis also posted on YouTube. 7y

Donna_sBookMinute #diovival -- Thanks for the link to the NYT article. It's a good remembrance of that glorious day. And, of course they had to include something about the editing of his speech and those who were opposed to it. Great find, this article. 7y
