Pickpick

With suspense kept tight, a good read/listen. NYPD Detective Mike Chapman‘s girlfriend Alex Cooper is kidnapped in the middle of court games. At 1st they think it‘s all about her case(s), but could Chapman actually hold the key?

I wanted to start a discussion. Last month the MWA named Linda Fairstein to a big award. After a twitter post by Attica Locke Et al they changed their mind. This was almost a month ago. It‘s back in the #booknews after the tweet from the Mysterious Bookshop.

Your thoughts?

More info. https://www.shelf-awareness.com/issue.html?issue=3398#m42850

For even more info just google, it comes up.

GingerAntics That is an interesting conundrum. If what Fairstein said was true, all the facts needed to be considered before the withdrawal happened. Locke does have a point, though. This was probably something that should have been looked into before the award was announced. It looks like homework should have been done that wasn‘t, at one time or another. I‘m reserving for judgement on if Fairstein should have been awarded or not. It all seems very fishy. 5y
kgriffith As a rule, I‘m generally on the side of decisions that make old white dudes angry ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ While the withdrawal may have benefited from a lengthier review process so they could put out a stronger statement, I‘d rather see errors on this side of judgment, whether they happen because of fear of not being palatable to leftists or genuine remorse. 5y
Lizpixie I‘ve been a huge fan of the Alex Cooper books from the start. Even I had to pause after I saw a doco about the incident which was heavily biased against her and called her the prime reason they were convicted. If what she now says is true, that she was only a small part of the arrests & if it‘s true about the other crimes they were committing at the time, maybe she‘s been unfairly criticised. And I don‘t believe the judges knew nothing about it! 5y

This is the Temple of Dendur at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. In the book, a retrospective fashion show of the designs of Wolf Savage (#awolfatthedoor), who has been murdered, takes place here, and the investigation is in full swing! And a wolf head button is a clue! Although I was looking forward to a NYC fashion mystery, this was disappointing. Maybe just too much explaining of things I already know! 🤔 #octoberxfiles

Billypar Too bad it wasn't better because it seems like it would be fun to read a good Met mystery at the Met. You could go to the real rooms where each scene takes place 🕵️ 5y
DivineDiana Agree! And I love going to the Met! 😀 5y
Cinfhen That is a shame. We should make a Met date @DivineDiana 💕💕 5y

Just returned my audio book, and it‘s time to choose a new one! This is the only time I go in without a plan. Picked this one, and happy to report that I discovered it has been on my Goodreads TBR since 2016!

Been looking for books that would give me an insight into being a Sex Crimes Prosecutor as it is my dream to become one. Lo and behold, turns out that Linda Fairstein (the famous former Head of NY's Sex Crimes Unit) is also an accomplished author of the Alexandra Cooper series aside from being a real life hero! Talk about when fiction meets reality 😊

MicheleinPhilly Mariska Hargitay and Stephanie March have both blurbed and promoted these. I was watching an episode of SVU the other night and these books were on Olivia‘s bookcase in her apartment. (I even scan people‘s bookcases in movies and on tv.) I haven‘t read them but I know Stephanie (Alex Cabot) is a big reader and she has really good taste. I think I‘ll check them out. 6y
JDMagnus Woah I didn't know that! It only makes reading her books all engaging now😁 6y

This one wasn't as much of a page-turner for me as other Fairstein books have been. It starts hours after her previous book ends, so best to have read Killer Look first. I always enjoy the NYC spots Fairstein features. This time out is the Bronx Zoo, which was fun to read about.

#SeptemBowie #day17 #Fashion This is Bk18 in the Alexandra Coooer series by former sex crimes prosecutor, Linda Fairstein. This outing is set in the high stakes design world of New Yorks Fashion Week. When designer Wolf Savage is found dead of what appears to be suicide days before his runway show, Alex is called in by his daughter who insists it's murder. When the investigation turns up missing money & family secrets, fashion turns deadly.

DivineDiana Stacked! Love a fashionable setting! 7y

There were a few books in the series that flagged, but with these last several, Linda Fairstein has been back with a vengeance! A great addition to her series that follows ADA Alexandra Cooper as she and her cop friends solve murders and mysteries while delving into the history and current day of NYC. This one revolves around the Bronx Zoo and the Wildlife Conservation Society. It even inspired me to take a trip up there over the long weekend!

mcipher I haven't read one of hers in years, but I used to love that series. 7y
ScientistSam @mcipher I got tired on some of the romantic storyline around the middle of the series but it's been going in a direction I like since the one centered around Central Park. (Can't remember the name right now but the hardback has a picture of the angel statue on Bethesda Terrace on the cover.) I'm back to loving the series 7y
mcipher @ScientistSam I should start over and see what I think now! 7y
