Deadfall | Linda Fairstein
8 posts | 5 read | 7 to read
Hunting a killer within New York's urban jungle becomes the biggest case of Alexandra Cooper's career in New York Times bestselling author Linda Fairstein's latest riveting thriller. A wild heart beats within New York City. Amid concrete and skyscrapers, the Wildlife Conservation Society works to preserve and protect the animal kingdom both within and beyond the borders of the five boroughs. But dangerous creatures don't always have claws and fangs, as Assistant DA Alexandra Cooper and NYPD detectives Mike Chapman and Mercer Wallace know all too well. Predators lurk close to home, and in the aftermath of the shocking assassination of an iconic public figure--someone Alex has worked with for years--the trio must unravel the motive behind the shooting to discover who is the bigger snake: the killer or the victim. The murder investigation provides more questions than answers, as a tangled mess of secrets slowly comes to light. From street gangs to secret societies, from big-game hunting to the illegal animal trade, from New York City zoos to the highest offices in city government, Alex has her work cut out for her--especially since the task force, led by the US Attorney, seems to be more against her than with her. As tensions rise between Alex and the feds, she must determine just how far she is willing to go to uncover the truth--and uphold the integrity of the office she has so proudly served. Deadfall proves once again why Linda Fairstein is hailed as "a champion teller of detective tales."* *USA Today

I wanted to start a discussion. Last month the MWA named Linda Fairstein to a big award. After a twitter post by Attica Locke Et al they changed their mind. This was almost a month ago. It‘s back in the #booknews after the tweet from the Mysterious Bookshop.

Your thoughts?

More info. https://www.shelf-awareness.com/issue.html?issue=3398#m42850

For even more info just google, it comes up.

GingerAntics That is an interesting conundrum. If what Fairstein said was true, all the facts needed to be considered before the withdrawal happened. Locke does have a point, though. This was probably something that should have been looked into before the award was announced. It looks like homework should have been done that wasn‘t, at one time or another. I‘m reserving for judgement on if Fairstein should have been awarded or not. It all seems very fishy. 5y
kgriffith As a rule, I‘m generally on the side of decisions that make old white dudes angry ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ While the withdrawal may have benefited from a lengthier review process so they could put out a stronger statement, I‘d rather see errors on this side of judgment, whether they happen because of fear of not being palatable to leftists or genuine remorse. 5y
Lizpixie I‘ve been a huge fan of the Alex Cooper books from the start. Even I had to pause after I saw a doco about the incident which was heavily biased against her and called her the prime reason they were convicted. If what she now says is true, that she was only a small part of the arrests & if it‘s true about the other crimes they were committing at the time, maybe she‘s been unfairly criticised. And I don‘t believe the judges knew nothing about it! 5y

Mehso-so

This one wasn't as much of a page-turner for me as other Fairstein books have been. It starts hours after her previous book ends, so best to have read Killer Look first. I always enjoy the NYC spots Fairstein features. This time out is the Bronx Zoo, which was fun to read about.

There were a few books in the series that flagged, but with these last several, Linda Fairstein has been back with a vengeance! A great addition to her series that follows ADA Alexandra Cooper as she and her cop friends solve murders and mysteries while delving into the history and current day of NYC. This one revolves around the Bronx Zoo and the Wildlife Conservation Society. It even inspired me to take a trip up there over the long weekend!

mcipher I haven't read one of hers in years, but I used to love that series. 7y
ScientistSam @mcipher I got tired on some of the romantic storyline around the middle of the series but it's been going in a direction I like since the one centered around Central Park. (Can't remember the name right now but the hardback has a picture of the angel statue on Bethesda Terrace on the cover.) I'm back to loving the series 7y
mcipher @ScientistSam I should start over and see what I think now! 7y

Finished it in one day!!! Amazing!!! Coop, Mike, and Mercer are on the trail of a killer. A majority of the book takes place around the Bronx Zoo. You get a little bit into the history of this zoological park!!!

Bk19 in the Alex Cooper series from the former Manhattan ADA Linda Fairstein, starts with the shocking conclusion from Bk18Killer Look. The District Attorney, Paul Battaglia, lies shot to death in Alex's lap on the steps of the Met. Knowing that they were on the outs with each other, the Federal Attorney tries to link Alex with the murder, but Det Mike Chapman & Mercer Wallace help Alex to find the real reason behind the DA's death.

#BookNDinner the Italian edition! Pairing my hubby's homemade, awesome, lasagna & ciabatta garlic bread with Deadfall by Linda Fairstein, Bk19 in the DA Alex Cooper series. The book so far is very good, but that lasagna is to die for! The hubby comes in handy for many many things.😍🍝🤤❤️

erinreads Now you've got me craving lasagna and it's only 5 in the morning here! 🤤 7y
Pheonixlike The dinner looks awesome! If I bring another Linda Fairstein novel, can I come for food? 😁 7y

minkyb That lasagne looks incredible! 7y
Lizpixie @minkyb oh it was👅 would you believe it's only the second time he's made it in his life? I used to be the cook until I got really sick, but he stepped right up and taught himself how to cook. Now he cooks some things better than I ever could. Whatta man!❤️ 7y

#TBRtemptation post 2! Despite the anticipatory notion of a painful death from a very high window...I like this cover. Released next week. This is the 19th installment in the Alexandra Cooper series, because Alexandra's fans can't get enough. The drive-by murder of an important city employee she's worked with for years leaves more questions than answers. From NYC's zoos to government buildings, a killing needs solved. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎

Lizpixie Already preordered! 7y
melbeautyandbooks I just can't support her. What she did, as a prosecutor, to the Central Park Five is horrible. 7y
