I loved the premise of this: during Covid, the author sets out to make a sweater from scratch. Not just knitting it, but going all the way back to the starting point by learning to shear a sheep—and then learning all the other steps in between. I expected more about the process of making, but there was a fairly even balance between the mistakes and triumphs of shearing, spinning, dyeing, and knitting, and the author‘s reflections along the way. ⤵️
After a puttering morning & the post office I am now ensconced in a corner of the coffee shop for my iced dirty chai, oatmilk+ 1 pump coconut syrup latte & breakfast turnover.
Reading this book from my #AuldLangSpine list from @Itchyfeetreader & after things are less puff-pastry-messy I‘m catching up on journaling & maybe a few more #LitsyLove replies.
My gray/cloudy/drizzly #SaturdayVibe is rest & recovery from the workweek.
I hovered between soft Pick & So-So but ultimately the love story at the crux of this felt a bit needless in my opinion. The originator of the “curse” on the other hand was very compelling and the final quarter made me like the book infinitely more. This is ultimately a story of family (both found and inherited) - I wish that was the focal point throughout. 🤷🏻♀️ Overall, was a quick read with a great setting.
The tagged *finally* came off hold for me! So on to a belated #AuldLangSpine pick 💖 @DGRachel @monalyisha
One of the things I really love about Camp Litsy is all the great new books I hadn‘t yet seen. Here are my nominees. Say Hello looks bizarre and interesting and I haven‘t seen it nominated yet. Avalon is written by the author of one of my favorite books a couple of years ago. Lastly, the tagged is published in July, so it doesn‘t make the cut, but looks really fun so I thought it deserved a shout out. #CampLitsy24
Goodness, this was excellent. And what a gorgeous cover! The summer after she graduates high school, Daunis is grieving her uncle‘s death and her grandmother‘s recent stroke, when she is drawn into an investigation of a meth ring in her community. Daunis embodies so many aspects of between-ness: in the transition from high school to adulthood, she is caught between the world of her mother‘s wealth & privilege and her Ojibwe heritage ⬇️
I saw this on a lot of #auldlangspine lists, so I decided to finally give it a try. This is a delightful cozy fantasy. Compelling writing, interesting characters, and all the good stuff - adventure, danger, shadowy characters, plus coffee and baked goods. 😂
