Finishing this book felt like working. Three men, two of which are Jewish, are friends and are meeting one another all the time. They discuss Judaism, Zionism, antisemitism, sexism… and all in that sarcastic, self-mockery tone of voice Philip Roth does as well. Plus I don‘t think I have ever read as extensively about circumcised penises as I did here. Another favorite subject of the men. It was hard working and I didn‘t really enjoy it. #booker

Librarybelle Doesn‘t sound like a book for me…I do love the color scheme of your photo, matching the background with the book cover! 9mo
Vansa I did not get this book at all. Reading it was a massive slog! 9mo

CarolynM Me neither @Vansa I bailed. I‘m a bit sorry I missed the circumcision discussions though🤣 9mo
BarbaraBB @Vansa @CarolynM I think I got the point after the first 50 pages and then it dragged along for another 200. You didn‘t miss much Carolyn, just men bragging about themselves 🤦🏻‍♀️😂 9mo
sarahbarnes I‘ve wondered about this one and now will feel okay not wondering about it anymore. 😆 9mo
MicheleinPhilly I was bored to tears by this book. 9mo
BarbaraBB @sarahbarnes Don‘t bother! 9mo
BarbaraBB @MicheleinPhilly So glad I‘m not the only one! 9mo
MrsMalaprop Baha, not surprised my husband loved this then & just said to me the other day that he needs to read more Jacobsen 🍆😂 9mo
BarbaraBB @MrsMalaprop Haha! It won the Booker price so more people must have loved it 🥴! I read another Jacobsen that I enjoyed much more: 9mo
Megabooks Lol! This sounds…interesting in a boring way. (edited) 9mo

A young girl is driven by her father to some strangers, while her mother has another baby.

I don‘t want to write anything about this very slim book, other than it had me in tears by the end.

Overall, I liked this modern adaptation of Sense and Sensibility - there are some similar storylines and characters in the novel, with enough tweaks to make the story its own. Admittedly, I got a little tired of Annie and Miranda and their constant antics bordering on self-pity. But, the story itself was a great distraction read and a fun adventure that it‘s a pick for me. #2010 #192025

DCI St. Just is investigating a murder at St. Michael‘s College, Cambridge. It‘s a fundraising weekend, which began by feting a group of well-heeled alumni, but ended in murder. The language is a bit colorful for me at times, but I really enjoy how St. Just questions everyone involved, not just eliciting the facts, but probing for perceptions and feelings. How he manages to piece these together results in a surprising resolution to the crime.

mabell My first read that counts toward #192025 ! This one is #2010 2y
mabell My only quibble is that the victim was strikingly similar to that of the last book, Death and the Lit Chick. The murderer‘s identity and motivation is very similar as well, now that I think about it. 2y
Librarybelle Hooray! I‘ve not read any in this series yet…I have the Max Tudor series on my tbr. 2y
mabell @Librarybelle I do too! I saw they were available in hoopla, so they‘re on my radar to try out. I was a little nervous they may be a more serious cozy. 2y

A reread for me & finished just in time for my library‘s discussion of it!

A bit different for a cozy mystery, as the amateur sleuth is male. I love Diesel the cat, who has an uncanny way of knowing who needs comfort. This is a fast read featuring librarians & books. Some of the comments characters make about other characters‘ appearance & behavior are not exactly polite, which is a tad bothersome, but I did like this one overall. #19822022 #2010

rwmg Maybe I shoukd move it further up the virtual TBR shelf 2y
Librarybelle @rwmg I found it quick and entertaining. At my book discussion tonight, some of the attendees commented on further entries in the series and how the writing gets better. I definitely plan to try more in the series at some point! 2y

BkClubCare And it is library week! (I don‘t really know, but every day this week has had some kind of book and reader appreciation theme) 2y
Librarybelle @BkClubCare Last week was National Library Week, at least in the US! So, maybe it‘s a fun continuation! And, a couple of days ago was Drop Everything And Read Day, so definitely reader appreciation! 2y
BkClubCare I think I saw that today was Teen Reader Appreciation Day? And yes, one of these days was Library Worker Day. So YAY YOU! 😍 2y
Librarybelle @BkClubCare Thank you! So many appreciation days celebrating libraries and readers! ❤️ 2y

The hardest story told in the most simple way. Salva has been a refugee for years. He fled from war torn #SouthSudan across the Nile and the desert to Ethiopia and Kenya. He learns to take life a day at a time.
In between there is Nya‘s story, who 20 years later in South Sudan walks 8 hours a day to fetch water.
A touching story!

squirrelbrain Loved Nizwa! We went on market day though; it was a bit smelly from all the goats, sheep and other animals for sale! 2y
BarbaraBB @squirrelbrain Market day is tomorrow! Our hotel is right in the middle of the souq so we‘ll go there at dawn tomorrow to have a look. Must be kind of special but smelly indeed, haha, all the goats! (edited) 2y

So interesting! Loved these true crime stories of a Sherlock Holmes enthusiast, mobsters, murderers, a giant squid, a possible arsonist and more. Fascinating! Highly recommend to true crime fans! #BookspinBingo @TheAromaofBooks #19822022 #Challenge #2010 @Librarybelle
