pickOverall, I liked this modern adaptation of Sense and Sensibility - there are some similar storylines and characters in the novel, with enough tweaks to make the story its own. Admittedly, I got a little tired of Annie and Miranda and their constant antics bordering on self-pity. But, the story itself was a great distraction read and a fun adventure that it‘s a pick for me. #2010 #192025
panRevels in the mundane matters of marriage, baldness, and common obliviousness to the reactions of others. The writing style had understated wit that triggered many slight smiles from me. I lost interest halfway through, though, and didn't find it unique.
pickI finished The Three Weissmanns of Westport this weekend surrounded by The Three Furry Monsters of the Couch. I picked up the book at a library book sale with no expectations, and I really enjoyed it! It was a takeoff on Sense and Sensibility, and I liked both the clever parallels and the way this version branched off in its own way at the end. Was it award winning writing? Maybe not. But I totally enjoyed the ride!
pickI bought this book on Friday, completely on a whim. I had never heard of it, but it looked inviting, and was a used book, so I went for it. It‘s marketed as a “devoted homage to Jane Austen‘s Sense & Sensibility”, which I have not read- but now want to. I really enjoyed this. It was interesting to see the relationship between mother and adult daughters as they all lived under the same roof again. (Con‘t below...)
panI‘ve been thinking about how to review this all day, and I don‘t think I can do it without spoilers. Supposedly a modern re-telling of Sense and Sensibility, and I kept listening to see how she could make three Jewish New Yorkers fit the story. Betty was amusing, if uneven, but Miranda (Marianne) becoming a lesbian? And Annie (Eleanor) ends up with the Colonel Brandon character? If you love Austen, avoid this. If you don‘t love Austen, why bother.
pickWonderfully modern take on Sense & Sensibility. Such a risk to try to successfully follow in Austen's footsteps, and she succeeds.
