Emily looks sooo good on my Forever Shelf! While I would have loved to find a copy with a dustjack, she does fit in perfectly with other hardback copies I bought as a teenager. Plus this is how she looked when I first pulled her off the shelf of my Public Library all those years ago. And it's Signed! I'll be donating my 'modern' paperback to my current Public Library in the hopes that she brings joy to another reader.

Many of the plants in my garden remind me of moments in my life e.g. this Snowball Viburnum. Growing up I often escaped to the public library in my small town. At home there was dysfunction & chaos. At the library order & calm.

It was there I found Emily who taught me to “Muster your wits: stand in your own defense.” Snowball bushes are part of the story. Today on Maud Hart Lovelace's birthday I added one to my garden. I will call her Emily.

As a teenager, my public library was an escape from the crazy that was my home life. It was there I first met Emily. Ive lost track of how many times I have revisited this dear friend. At age 50, she still charms me and brings me a sense of peace and calm. Was thrilled to see this 1st Edition at Betsy-Tacy Society in Mankato, Mn.
