In the chaos of that terrible night, her secret went down with the Titanic. But secrets have a way of floating to the surface Trapped in an unhappy aristocratic marriage, Elinor Coombes sees only lonely days ahead of her. So a present from her father - tickets for the maiden voyage of a huge, luxurious new ship called the Titanic offers a welcome escape from the cold, controlling atmosphere of her husbands ancestral home, and some precious time with her little son, Teddy. When the ship goes down, Elinor realises the disaster has given her a chance to take Teddy and start a new life but only if they can disappear completely, listed as among the dead. Penniless and using another womans name, she has to learn to survive in a world that couldnt be more different from her own, and keep their secret safe. An uplifting story about grabbing your chances with both hands, and being brave enough to find out who you really are.

Very good. Full of historical detail and drama. Follows a young woman and her child who takes on a new persona when tragedy happens on the Titanic. Heartbreaking at times but also hopeful

I will be reading more by this author. This book is so good. One I highly recommend. It has so much in it. Ups and downs. Laughter and tears. History and more. And it has the TITANIC... Of course that is the part that makes this story come together.

Elinor survives the sinking of the Titanic and it sets her on a different life path from the one she thought she‘d be living. I really enjoyed this book.

Deblovestoread @BarbaraBB FYI while it was my most enjoyable book of the week it is a pretty vanilla read. Not as gritty as other NYC immigrant stories. With the current political chaos I‘m leaning into books that are lighter in tone. I doubt I will remember much about it in the long term. My other book was The Bell Jar. It will stay with me longer but hard to say I enjoyed it. 💔 2mo

I finished 3 books. Two buddy reads which were fun if not fantastic The Secret Adversary with #ChristieCapers and From Dust to Stardust with #SundayBuddyRead. I also finished Beautyland which I 🩷.

Still reading King albeit slowly and haven‘t made much progress on Do the Work. Reading the #NetGalley ARC of the tagged. Starting CT and Margo today. Still keeping up with my daily reads.

But will the tickets her father buys for a trip on the ill-fated Titanic be her saving grace?
