I‘m still interested in reading some of Bergman‘s other work since in the intro he talks about this being a new kind of writing for him, but it wasn‘t till after I picked this up that I realized it‘s self help (based on a column of his) and that‘s just not my genre so I only made it through the first chapter…

Casey doesn‘t feel like human tips are applicable to his situation, but I‘m getting a lot out of S. Bear Bergman‘s SPECIAL TOPICS IN BEING A HUMAN. He does a great job of breaking down WHY some common sensey stuff is so common sensical, and of demonstrating healthy ways to relate to people.

AlaMich That is the grumpiest of grumpy faces!! 😂 2y
Tamra Casey looks like she already has common sense and doesn‘t need any advice. 😆 2y

A very queer and tender guide indeed. Bergman shares advice on topics like "how to give the kind of help that helping's all about" (my personal favourite), "how to get someone's new name & pronouns right," "how to apologize," "how to tell people things they probably won't be happy to hear," and more! Bergman's writing is compassionate, direct. I loved the expressive line drawings of diverse people & would have liked more variety in the colouring.

I'm in a polyamorous book hopping mood, starting another one even though I'm already reading like three others??

KathyWheeler That‘s my normal reading life! 😄. I just love the way you likened it to being polyamorous; I‘m going to start referring to my reading that way. 😊 2y
CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian @KathyWheeler Ha! I am usually reading two or three (one audiobook) but four is pushing it for me! 2y
