Horse Barbie: A Memoir | Geena Rocero

This was great! A fascinating life story from a gifted storyteller who just oozes charm and charisma. Geena Rocero has lived many lives, as a teen trans beauty pageant queen in her native Philippines, a stealth model in the U.S., and as a public speaker, businesswoman, and trans advocate most recently. Recommended in audiobook format, read by the author! #TransBooks #QueerBooks #LGBTQBooks #LGBTQ #Trans

This memoir is so good!! It traces the author's journey from being a trans beauty pageant queen in the Philippines in her youth to a move to the US and a stealth modeling career to coming out publically as trans. She is very charming and charismatic and reads the #audiobook herself!

I am quite sick right now, so not really up to writing a real review, but this was sad and hot and musical and smart. Hazel Jane Plante is such a gift!! Cat Fitzpatrick said in her recent acceptance speech for the Lambda lit award for trans fiction that trans people are writing a disproportionate amount of today's great fiction and I agree!!

"Sometimes you can tell something is special, that you're really just a vessel for this special thing to come into existence. I didn't feel smart enough to write the lines that were coming to me. It was almost like I was picking up a faint radio signal from a parallel universe." #QueerBooks #TransBooks

This book was so much fun!! I love reading silly romances with trans main characters! Especially when transphobia isn‘t the problem they are facing. Like the dedication says we deserve silly love stories too! ❤️

Spent the morning birdwatching and reading this #bookspin book. Wow! This was a spectacular graphic novel. Chock-full of humor & heart, it tells the story of Lewis Hancox‘s journey to his true self. I loved it & all its Britishisms. 🇬🇧 #transbooks #transauthors #pridemonth #52bookclub23 #abookwithasubtitle

A lovely middle grade story about an 11-year-old trans kid who is dealing with his parents' possible separation, growing up and apart from his sisters, and his grandma having early stages of dementia. He ends up projecting his anxieties onto his grandma's old house, suspecting it's haunted. My favourite part was the sibling dynamics. This had very "Now and Then" vibes (tweens researching local history, even a seance!), but make it queer and trans!

A wonderful and sad graphic novel about two queer women (one white and trans, the other cis and Chinese) as their relationship disintegrates at the same time as their auntie relationship with their niece holds them together and brings them joy. Very committed to the nuances of relationships and the complexities of human beings. The art is gorgeous and has a fun way of drawing the characters as monsters when engaged in "feral" imaginative playing.
