Paris Apartment | Lucy Foley
From the New York Times bestselling author of The Guest List comes a new locked room mystery, set in a Paris apartment building in which every resident has something to hide... Jess needs a fresh start. She's broke and alone, and she's just left her job under less than ideal circumstances. Her half-brother Ben didn't sound thrilled when she asked if she could crash with him for a bit, but he didn't say no, and surely everything will look better from Paris. Only when she shows up - to find a very nice apartment, could Ben really have afforded this? - he's not there. The longer Ben stays missing, the more Jess starts to dig into her brother's situation, and the more questions she has. Ben's neighbors are an eclectic bunch, and not particularly friendly. Jess may have come to Paris to escape her past, but it's starting to look like it's Ben's future that's in question. The socialite - The nice guy - The alcoholic - The girl on the verge - The conciergeEveryone's a neighbor. Everyone's a suspect. And everyone knows something they're not telling.

(I bought the print from KTCanvases, & I‘m still trying to find the best place to hang it, but how pretty 😍 )

Foley has a formula for the characters in her mysteries for sure, dark secrets, old friends, “the help” & scenic locations & a holiday. Twists on twists. I loved it.

Sparklemn I love the print! It looks three-dimensional. 14mo

#bookspin
It was my least favourite Lucy Foley's book. Something was off. But I really liked the twist near the ending and that changed my overall opinion about the book. I like the way she writes mystery novels with different points of view and unreliable narrators. This was not ideal but still I will pick the next one of hers

Hovering between a pick and a So-so - It was a decent plot that kept me reading, and there was a big twist toward the end that made me actually gasp, so points for that, but the writing was often cringy. Also, did anyone else notice that at least 11 times, by my count, the author describes the scent of someone's sweat, with really weird adjectives like vinegary and peppery 🤮 Truly bizarre fixation. 🤔🙀🙄

allureofbeauty I‘d had high hopes for it and loved the cover but it kind of fell flat. 1y

allureofbeauty Hey. I accidentally sent this to you instead of the one that I should have, which I believe was sent to you by the woman who accidentally got that one. The envelopes got confused somehow. And I tried tagging you a few times but I didn‘t hear from you and I‘m hoping to have you send this to where it should have gone and I can PayPal you the money to media mail it. I will email you the address it needed to go to. 1y
Kappadeemom Hi! I have already mailed it back to the owner! Thanks for checking 1y

This one has been my least favorite of Foley‘s books to date. Something was just missing and the story‘s scope didn‘t seem to fit. I was just left feeling apathetic for the majority of it, though it picked up in the second half.

I listened to this as an audiobook and it did the melodrama no favours. Some twists and turns, but found this as exciting as driving through a suburban strip-mall on a Sunday. Why didn‘t I bail? It‘s a long drive home from work and I‘m a completist. More‘s the pity.

This is my favorite of Lucy Foley‘s books I‘ve read. After some trouble at her job in England, Jess goes to stay for a while with her brother in Paris. He says he will wait up for her, but when she arrives, he isn‘t at his apartment. The others living in the building are all suspicious characters. She understands limited French and knows no one there, so she has to decide who to trust as she tries to find out what happened.

Jess figured she‘d get a new start, visit her brother in Paris. When Jess arrives , she can‘t believe Ben isn‘t waiting for her & is stunned the beauty of the Paris apartment. Her concerns growing, she realizes everyone she encounters seems to have something to hide .A fast paced & interesting read!

Oooh, this was a good one... If I could still stay up past my bedtime reading, this is one that I'd have read into the wee hours of the night, but alas, I fall asleep at 10:30 no matter what the situation. Anyway. I love a locked room mystery and this one gave me such strong vibes of a particular Agatha Christie that I really like but would absolutely spoil everything if I said which one.

So many ugly secrets! So many liars. Twisty plot, dysfunctional characters, slowly building tension, short and effective chapters - very entertaining!

MegsBooks I‘m listening to this one on audio and am thinking about dnfing a handful of chapters in. 😬 Does it get better? 2y
Arvena @MegsBooks sorry to hear that you are not enjoying it :) I liked it from the beginning, but maybe at the moment you need something different :) it is not light-hearted story... 2y

I really enjoyed this thriller, even more so than “The Guest List.” I listened to the audiobook, which, with the characters and accents, made for a really entertaining and more-suspenseful option. (Mimi‘s voice grates though.) If you need a good whodunnit, this doesn‘t disappoint!

A fun page turner that will have you trying to solve the various mysteries that lie within. Jess, a young Brit, escapes London to join her estranged brother in Paris. Only when she arrives at his apartment, he seems to have vanished into thin air. To say anymore would ruin this twisty and suspenseful tale!
Currently in development at a little company I know called Sony Pictures.

A financially destitute young woman moves into her brother's French loft only to find him missing and the rest of the tenants acting strange. Could they be responsible for his disappearance as she uncovers secrets and a crime occurring in the outskirts of Paris? Another whodunnit with a cast of suspects similar to her previous mystery The Guest List.
