C. A. Higginss acclaimed novel Lightless fused suspenseful storytelling, high-caliber scientific speculation, and richly developed characters into a stunning science fiction epic. Now the dazzling Supernova heightens the thrills and deepens the haunting exploration of technology and humanityand the consequences that await when the two intersect.Once Ananke was an experimental military spacecraft. But a rogue computer virus transformed itherinto something much more: a fully sentient artificial intelligence, with all the power of a godand all the unstable emotions of a teenager. Althea, the ships engineer and the last living human aboard, nearly gave her life to save Ananke from dangerous saboteurs, forging a bond as powerful as that between mother and daughter. Now she devotes herself completely to Anankes care. But teaching a thinking, feeling machineperhaps the most dangerous force in the galaxyto be human proves a monumental challenge. When Ananke decides to seek out Matthew Gale, the terrorist she regards as her father, Althea learns that some bonds are stronger than mortal minds can understandor control. Drawn back toward Earth by the quest, Althea and Ananke will find themselves in the thick of a violent revolution led by Matthews sister, the charismatic leader Constance, who will stop at nothing to bring down a tyrannical surveillance state. As the currents of past decisions and present desires come into stark collision, a new and fiery future is about to be born. Praise for C. A. Started out a bit slow for me - mainly because it had been so long since I read the first book in the series I couldn‘t remember who all the characters were. Once I got that all sorted I really enjoyed the story. A bit of Frankenstein mixed with 2001: A Space Odyssey...

A hard sci-fi thriller that takes place all over the Milky Way. Althea deals with having a sentient ship and the challenges that go along, while Constance tries to keep her revolution alive, while trying to stay true to her cause.
For a second book in a series, I thought this book was very well done. The plot kept moving, and I really liked the character development we got from Constance. The second half was true to the thriller style of the (cont)

rjsthumbelina ...first book. The only thing I didn't like was that the time jumps and character jumps we're difficult to follow on #audiobook. Listened to this on #scribd 6y

pagà vu
(pey-zhah voo)
noun
1. that feeling when you keep starting the same page of a book again and again and again and again

Mainly because I‘ve been in writing mode more than reading mode, I feel like it‘s taking me FOREVER to read Supernova. I know I‘ve tried to get through page 87 at least a half dozen times. Gah! #Supernova #pagavu #scifi #CAHiggins

It‘s been slow going for me with the second book in the Lightless series. Supernova essentially picks up where Lightless left off, and it‘s been tough remembering all that happened in the first book. Where the first book was a suspenseful thriller, Supernova is all out war. #CAHiggins #scifi #Lightless #sciencefiction #Supernova #ERMadLibs

I started off strong earlier this year with my list of books for this year‘s Eclectic Readers Mad Libs Reading Challenge, but February and March left me way off track. Getting back into it with a book I‘ve been eager to read for a long while now, Supernova. I read the first book in this series during last year‘s reading challenge. Ended up being one of my favorite books from last year, too. #Lightless #SciFi #Supernova #CAHiggins #ERMadLibs

wanderinglynn What a fun challenge! 6y

Christmas isn‘t finished yet! Just got these three books in the mail by using a gift card. Supernova and Radiate will let me finish off C.A. Higgins‘ “Lightless” trilogy. Also excited to dive into Lesley Nneka Arimah‘s short story collection, What It Means When a Man Falls from the Sky. Reading all three for the 2018 Eclectic Readers Mad Libs Reading Challenge. Still got more books coming, too! #bookhaul #bookmail #scifi #shortstories #ERMadLibs

The second item in the 2018 Eclectic Readers Mad Libs Reading Challenge calls for a title that is an exclamation. Tough category to fill, and I even though I looked for a book with an “!” in it, I decided I could certainly justify something as big and powerful as a supernova for this. This is the second book in C.A. Higgins‘ “Lightless” trilogy. #ERMadLibs #Supernova #Lightless #scifi #CAHiggins

BillBlume Fun tidbit: the first book in this series, Lightless, was part of my 2017 ER Mad Libs Reading Challenge. I chose it for an adjective. Ended up being one of my favorite books this year and part of why I couldn‘t resist putting book two in my 2018 list. 6y

I had one hold in.. One!! I should have known better, but their "new arrivals" section always seems to have everything I want to read conveniently curated for me!! Photo featuring Paczki the cat ? #catsoflitsy #libraryordeath

quietlycuriouskate Well, they're not going to read themselves: someone's got to do it!Gorgeous cat, remarkably like my old Seamus. 😻 7y
tea.n.books @River_Voice haha, very true! He is v handsome, but for Seamus's sake I hope he was smarter than Paczki who is currently rubbing an electric socket to get my attention 🙀 7y

Me: Hey, I'm going to run out for a few things I need.
BF: And by 'few things I need,' you mean 'books.'
Me: Er, well, yes.

Melkyl That sounds like my husband. He has actually been so silly as to suggest that I read what I have before I buy more books. 😂 8y
