The Haunting of Beatrix Greene
The Haunting of Beatrix Greene | Vicky Alvear Shecter, Rachel Hawkins, Ash Parsons
7 posts | 9 read | 6 to read
Beatrix Greene has made a name for herself in Victorian England as a reputable spiritual medium, but she is a fraud: even she knows ghosts are not real. But when she is offered a lucrative job by James Walker—a scientist notorious for discrediting pretenders like her—Beatrix takes the risk of a lifetime. If her séance at the infamously haunted Ashbury Manor fools him, she will finally have true financial freedom. If she fails, her secret will become her public shame.
But James has his own dark secrets, and he believes only a true medium can put them to rest. When Beatrix’s séance awakens her real gift—and with it, a vengeful spirit—James finds that the answers he seeks are more dangerous than he could have imagined. Together, with a group of supernatural sleuths, Beatrix and James race to settle the ghost’s unrest before it strikes— or else they might not make it out of the haunted manor alive.

Beatrix is a medium who doesn't believe in ghosts. She's asked by the scientist James Walker to spend a night and conduct a seance in Ashbury Manner. Little does she know, the house has a dark history that she wakes up. I enjoyed this book, written in episodes, a lot. It was a great spooky, Victorian gothic novel. It would make a fantastic tv show as well. #arc #NetGalley

Quick little read. Said it was horror, but even though there was some gore, I thought it was more a cozy horror, if that's even a genre. Just wasn't scary to me, but I enjoyed the first in this new series.

What a good read for Halloween. A haunted house, a medium, a sceptic, and well developed characters for a quick, gothic read. There is a bit of romance, ok a tad more than a bit, but it is not over the top. While the ending felt rushed and a bit scattered,, it was still worth the read.

(I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review. Thanks to the publishers and Netgalley.)

Beatrix Greene is a well known medium. There's just one catch, she doesn't believe in ghosts. When James Walker, known for discrediting charlatans, offers her a large sum of money to spend a night in a haunted manor to prove or disprove the existence of ghosts shes convinced it's a trap. Confident in her ability to convince him, especially with a life changing amount $ on the line, she accepts the job. A night of frantic horror follows.
