Stitch 'n Bitch
Stitch 'n Bitch: The Knitter's Handbook | Debbie Stoller
10 posts | 12 read | 6 to read
Knitting is hot, with 4 million newcomers in the last few years joining a core group of 38,000,000 knitters nationwide. And these are primarily young, creative, connected chicks with sticks who are coming together in living rooms, knitting cafes, and chic yarn stores, and making everything from funky hats to bikinis. In Stitch 'n Bitch, Debbie Stoller-founder of the first Stitch 'n Bitch knitting group in New York City-covers every aspect of knitting and the knitting-together lifestyle: the how-to, the when-to, the what-to, the why-to. Writing with wit and attitude (The Knitty-Gritty, Blocking for Blockheads), she explains the different types of needles and yarns (and sheep, too) and all the techniques from basic to fancy, knit to purl to cast-off. She also shares her special brand of corrective surgery for when things go wrong, and offers fun and informative sidebars on such topics as how to find the best yarn for less, how to make a buttonhole, knitting etiquette, and what tools to keep in your knitting bag. At the heart of the book are forty stylish patterns: Alien Scarf, Big Bad Baby Blanky, Mohair Hoodie, Kitty and Devil Hat, Cell Phone Cozy, and Wonder Woman Bikini. And for anyone interested: how to start a Stitch 'n Bitch group.

Not reading related, but I finished my latest knitting project. I misjudged how the colors would pool in the yarn I chose but it was a fun pattern to make. Zuzu's Petals on Ravelry. #knittersoflitsy

Received this book from my bestie a few years back. She's the only person that ever buys me books - everyone else gets me gift cards. LOL. It's great for a beginner knitter like myself. 😊 #liberthday

KellyMuser Yay!🎉 Enjoy! I was knitting a little myself this morning. 7y

This is a very feeble offering of a #blurb. I kind of gave up and just grabbed this. I dont read blurbs much and couldn't think of any entertaining ones!

juliannebenford It is a pretty good blurb, though the slang is a bit dated! 7y
BexCW @juliannebenford, I love a little outdated slang! Its kind of adorable.... 7y

Three years ago I taught myself to knit after decades of failed attempts using this awesome approachable and amusing book. Today I had my first booth at a craft fair! What a great day!

LauraBeth This is awesome 😀 7y
BookInMyHands Good for you! I just took my knitting needle away from my five-year-old who was using it to "scare the ghosts," and I was just thinking that I should start knitting again. I'm not very good, but I'll try this book! 7y
BethwithBooks Thanks @LauraBeth and @BookInMyHands !!! I can't recommend this book enough! - the crochet one The Happy Hooker is also fabulous 7y

My #uniquefact is I taught myself how to knit. I haven't made anything in a few years, but that didn't stop me from buying books. #augustphotochallenge @TheSpinecrackersBookClub

LeahBergen I love to knit. My favourite things to make are baby sweaters! 8y
LauraJ Me too, thanks to the stitch-n-bitch book! 8y
GinaAnderson I taught myself to knit with Stitch-n-bitch, too! The hobby wasn't long-lasting but it is now a skill I have. 8y

TheSpinecrackersBookClub Wowie. This is impressive. I have a mom that knits a lot but I just never got into it. 8y
bookishkai I taught myself, too, with the aid of Stitch-n-Bitch and a couple of other books. 8y
readinginthedark Me too! I taught myself with a visual stitch guide, and also haven't made anything in a few years! I've found that I have the most trouble casting on and off and gauging. The stitches and patterns themselves have always been fun and easy! 8y
Pinkmeghan 👏🙌 So did I!! Debbie Stoller's book really changed my life! Love finding other knitters!! 8y
Reagan I also taught myself to knit. I am back in University, but looking forward to picking it up when I graduate. 8y

#recommendsday -- this book made me inject a ton of money into the local yarn economy and I don't regret it. I'm still not a good knitter, but this book is a great intro course.

cuiuup I've been wanting this book for a while! I'm a crocheter but I really want to learn knitting! 8y
rachelm @MallloCup it's funny and the patterns are really modern. Fantabulous intro to knitting. 8y
cuiuup I will definitely been purchasing this in the near future. I've figured out the basics and learned I'm better with having the yarn in my left hand. I just don't know what to make to better my skills haha 8y
