pickI have never read the book, but I know it‘s banned. I checked out this graphic novel version to see what it was all about—the story is a bit confusing to me, but there are themes of time travel, sci-fi, and trauma stemming from Camp Dresden in WW2. Interesting read, but the alien thing threw me off.
pickI read Slaughterhouse-Five ages ago and I don‘t think it had the impact on me that the book tends to elicit (in my defense it was an e-book and I don‘t take those in as well as print… anyone else?)
Anyway, I took a big break reading this GN version thinking the same was going to happen. But then I finished in one sitting and it hit! I get the hype. A lot of really important statements made about the impacts of war.
so-soI WISH this were one of my required readings in high-school. I found myself getting lost in the tangential thought and loose associations throughout this book. A little extra guidance from an English teacher would have been very beneficial. After reading the book, I spent some time researching the author and the popularity of this specific title. After gaining this insight, I have a deeper appreciation and understanding of the story.
Slaughterhouse Five is maybe my favorite book and I am absolutely loving this graphic novel adaptation.
so-soI remember reading the original as a teen and having it blow my mind. I expected too much from this graphic novel. Still the expression of the alien‘s POV worked very well in this format.

When I saw those freshly-shaved faces, it was a shock. “My God, my God,” I said to myself — it‘s the Children‘s Crusade.”
…the aliens kindly explained how their language worked. Each image was a brief, urgent message describing a situation or scene, which the Tralfamadorians read all at once.
I'm reading the graphic novel adaptation of Vonnegut's classic book and absolutely love it so far! I haven't read the actual book since high school but this is seriously making me want to re-read it!
So it goes.
These are the 2 books I received for Christmas. Both from my brother and sister in law and nephew.

pick⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I‘m super leery of adaptations, especially when one of my favorites is involved, but Ryan North absolutely does Slaughterhouse-Five justice. The time travel bits were handled brilliantly. Some of Monteys‘s art gave me literal chills. Vonnegut fans, you must get your hands on this! It‘s gorgeous. I think Father Kurt would approve.
Oh, I love this dedication!
Excited for this graphic novel adaptation of one of my favorites. 💚
pickRyan North is the perfect pick to adapt the text with his flair for humor and absurdity, and Monteys‘ art manages to visually embody the clean and simple syntax of Vonnegut‘s style without losing anything...
The only problem with this book is it makes me want to read all of Vonnegut‘s books as graphic novels now.
This is an easy 10/10
