The Life She Was Given | Ellen Marie Wiseman
post image
Pickpick

As always, #EllenMarieWiseman never ceases to amaze me with her flawless writing and #poignant yet #heartwarming story. This moving tale is told from two point of view alternating between Lilly Blackwood in the #1930s and Julia Blackwood in the #1950s.

A story of #faith, #courage, #love and #survival. In 2009, two #journalists, Euna Lee (Korean American) and Laura Ling (Chinese American) were detained in #NorthKorea, and later found guilty for illegal entry. They were sentenced to 12 years of hard labour. In this book, Euna Lee chronicled her journey from imprisonment and later freedom after the intervention of the U.S government. #memoir #nonfiction #audiobook #poignant

This #memoir is based on the collection of diary entries of the Russian born Nonna Lisowskaja Bannister, which she wrote before, during, and after #WWII. Although she wasn't a #Jew, she was sent to a #German #labourcamp where her time there was shrouded with fear and oppression. A #poignant memoir about #love, #hope, #courage, #faith, and #forgiveness. #nonfiction #awesomeread #history #audiobook

Coal River | Ellen Marie Wiseman
post image
Pickpick

Emma returned to Coal River after a fire incident left her orphaned. She hated Coal River for many reasons but the most heartrending was the constant shroud of oppression over the lives of the young children working as #breakerboys in #coalmines. She is determined to change their lives through her acts of courage and kindness. Another #poignant #historicalfiction by Wiseman I really enjoyed.
