On the shores of a tranquil fjord in Northern Iceland, a man is brutally beaten to death on a bright summers night. As the 24-hour light of the arctic summer is transformed into darkness by an ash cloud from a recent volcanic eruption, a young reporter leaves Reykajvik to investigate on her own, unaware that an innocent persons life hangs in the balance. Ari Thr Arason and his colleagues on the tiny police force in Siglufjrur struggle with an increasingly perplexing case, while their own serious personal problems push them to the limit. What secrets does the dead man harbour, and what is the young reporter hiding? As silent, unspoken horrors from the past threaten them all, and the darkness deepens, its a race against time to find the killer before someone else dies... Dark, terrifying and complex, Blackout is an exceptional, atmospheric thriller from one of Icelands finest crime writers.

Book #3 in this series. Not my favourite so far, but still good. This one is set in summer, so it was nice to experience summer in Iceland. It was nice to continue to follow the lives of the main characters but the solving of the murder wasn‘t as good as in the last two books.

The hardest part of reading this series is figuring out which book comes next. This is the second book time wise in the book series. I love mysteries where it‘s coooold!❄️❄️❄️

This is not my kind of book. I didn't enjoy the writing style or the content but it is well written, well paced and if you like darker scandi crime books then you'll probably enjoy this.

Another random book I bought and forgot about. Glad I gave it a try

#DarkIcelandSeries #3 #blackout #NordicNoir
I love this series! The backdrop of Iceland with its snow, its bitter cold, its darkness, its long winter-then spring/summer with its brilliant, radiant light was mesmerizing & held me spellbound.A Classic whodunit, with many voices narrating, some time shifts,& an intricate plot,it felt like a labyrinth to me.All the varying threads did come together in the end. I am so glad their are 3 more in the series!

Andrew65 Well done 👏👏👏 This is a series i need to try out. 2y

Reading on my porch- right now it‘s pleasant and cool. My cat Em woke me at 4:30! I could not go back to sleep so I have been busying myself in the house. Time for a reading break on my porch!

shortsarahrose My “cat alarm” went off at 6:30 this morning- definitely earlier than I wanted to be up! 😆 2y

The second book in the Dark Iceland series saw the continuation of Ari Thor‘s journey. Again, Jonasson does a great job of creating a dark atmosphere. The subject matter of this one was extremely heavy (human trafficking, abuse).

1st book for #Seriesread2021 and #Booked2021 #colorintitle

Cinfhen Ahhhh!, nice 🖤I wasn‘t sure which prompt at first 3y

Icelandic noir that is second chronologically in series (but published third in the U.S.). Glad I read this in the original order since it takes place one year after the first book and has most of the same characters. Didn't care much about the journalist character or her timeline but overall still an enjoyable book. Impulse read. 11 pts #WinterGames2020 #MerryReaders

A bit confusing (maybe also because I didn't read the first book and this is part of a series) and the story felt rushed at the end, but overall I enjoyed it. And I liked the escape to Iceland.

#20series20days @Andrew65
This is an enjoyable series set in a town in the remote north of Iceland. I finished bk 2 tonight so seemed a good opp for this thread. Strangely i read bk 4 before bk 2 as it was published in uk as the second in series but that seems common with translated crime. The lead pc is ari thor who leaves Reykjavik + fiancee to the remote town, here he is investigating a murder with lots of threads both personal + professional

Andrew65 Another series I need to read! 4y
andrew61 @Andrew65 i suspect that after 20 days we will all have loads of ideas, really enjoying this thread, thanks Andrew. 4y

🌋🌋🌋🌋 I've spent this lazy Sunday morning in bed finishing up this book and now it's past noon. I love days like this! This was a pretty decent thriller. I really enjoyed it and could actually see it as a film.

Jess_Read_This I ordered Snowblind from Book Depository last week. I've heard he's a terrific author. 7y
Foxyfictionista @Jess_Read_This Yes, he's pretty solid. This is the first book of his that I've read though. I should probably have read Snowblind first. Whoops. 7y
Jess_Read_This @Foxyfictionista I wasn't sure which to read first. A Goodreads friend recommended Snowblind so I started there. She said the main character is her new bookcrush. 7y
Foxyfictionista @Jess_Read_This Snowblind is the first in the series. I started with the third. I'm not sure who the main character is though. There were several in this book. I guess maybe Ari Thor is the main character because he's in the blurb on the back. ☺️ 7y
Jess_Read_This Yes! That's the one! Ari is her new book crush. I googled the series and it looks like the books were translated into English in different order but the storyline will still flow if you read in the English versions. Which I have to do...since I don't know Icelandic. 7y
