Art of Neil Gaiman
Art of Neil Gaiman: The Story of a Writer with Handwritten Notes, Drawings, Manuscripts, and Personal Photographs | Hayley Campbell
18 posts | 6 read | 1 reading | 21 to read
"The world is simply composed of stories."Novelist, comics writer, scriptwriter, poet, and occasional artist, there are few creative avenues Neil Gaiman hasn't ventured downfrom unforgettable books like The Ocean at the End of the Lane and American Gods to groundbreaking comics and graphic novels like The Sandman and Violent Cases; from big-screen fantasies like Coraline and Stardust to small-screen epics like Doctor Who and Neverwhere; and from short stories to songwriting, stage plays to radio plays, journalism to filmmaking, and all points in between. The Art of Neil Gaiman is the first book to tell the full story of his amazing creative life. Never-before-seen manuscripts, notes, cartoons, drawings, and personal photographs from Neil's own archive are complemented by artwork and sketches from all his major works and his own intimate recollections. Each project is examined in turn, from genesis to fruition, and positioned in the wider narrative of Gaiman's creative life, affording unparalleled access to the inner workings of the writer's mind.Utterly comprehensive, lavishly illustrated, The Art of Neil Gaiman is the fully authorized account of the life and work of one of the world's great storytellers.

Not many books with #fantasysetting I can ‘get into‘ but Gaiman is such an extraordinary storyteller and though I have not read all his books, I‘ve enjoyed these! Can you guess which books these are?

#LetsTravelAugust

Branwen I'll take a stab at it! 😀 Top left:The Graveyard Book, Top middle: Neverwhere, Top right: Coraline, Bottom left: The Sleeper and the Spindle. I have no idea about the last two! Did I get any of them? 5mo
Kalalalatja I‘m picking up where @Branwen left off, with Stardust in the bottom middle 👍 I have no idea about the last one 😅 5mo

Autumnscribe Is the last one from the Graveyard Book? 5mo
erzascarletbookgasm @Branwen @Kalalalatja The bottom row right pic supposed to be an illustration from The Ocean at the End Of the Lane but I found the wrong picture! You‘re right, @Autumnscribe it is another pic from The Graveyard Book. 5mo

#QuotsyDec18 Day 25: Books make the best #Gifts indeed. And so, from KL to Singapore to Manila, we brought luggages of books to give out to family and friends this year. Each one tailor fit to the individual‘s character, tastes, interests. Clearly, I am a Book Auntie.

Had to go downtown for an appointment today so I stopped by a bookstore on the way. I didn‘t find what I was looking for, but I did find these two awesome books in the bargain aisle & I couldn‘t say no...because Neil Gaiman...and The Picture of Dorian Gray in purple!

"And I wrote an outline for Neverwhere, and the great thing was that the outline was just like the opening. I had no idea where it went; I just knew how it began. And I took Croup and Vandemar, who were characters who'd been living in my head since I was about seventeen, and pulled them out."
Neverwhere was my first Gaiman novel. I loved it! The pic on the right is actually my hubby as Croup ? @JReid

This chapter is inspiring me to look into Neil Gaiman's comic, Death: The High Cost of Living. I'm not a huge comic reader though, so we shall see.

"I think one of the great things about fiction is that it takes the chaos of life and feeds it back to one in a form that is emotionally satisfying."

And I love seeing Gaiman's scribbles!! ☺

I'm a little behind on my #octphotochallenge so I'm going to post a few in a row. For #literarybestfriend it was hard to pick just one, so instead, I went with one of my favorite authors. #NeilGaiman is an author I can't go wrong with. I have yet to come across a book by him that I haven't immediately fallen in love with.

Krisjericho What a fantastic choice! I adore him. 3y

The power of words... >>"Apparently, you said a word so bad that they would not repeat it to me. What did you say?" and I said, "Fuck." And she said, "That word is so bad you must never, ever ever ever say that again to anybody." And I thought: Cool. You can do that with just a word!
