Frazzled: Everyday Disasters and Impending Doom
Frazzled: Everyday Disasters and Impending Doom | Booki Vivat
27 posts | 16 read | 10 to read
Meet Abbie Wu. Abbie is in crisis and not just because she s starting middle school or because she s stuck in a family that doesn t quite get her or because everyone seems to have a Thing except her. Abbie Wu is always in crisis. From debut author and professional doodler Booki Vivat, Frazzled dives right into the mind of this hilariously neurotic middle school girl as she tries to figure out who she is and where she belongs. Akin to Smile by Raina Telgemeier, Frazzled is heavily illustrated, embarrassingly honest, and sure to appeal to anyone in the middle of figuring out how to survive the everyday disasters of growing up."

Just finished this super cute middle grade book in preparation for my September Tween Book Club. We're going to talk about typography and how it impacts the message a reader gets, be it a sign, advertisement, book, etc. Should be fun!

(Personally this is a so-so, but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it [clearly, as I'm using it for a library program!].)

This book is a more girl centric Wimpy Kid. We join our lead as a middle child in Middle School and she hates it!. She very much makes me think of Jan Brady. She feels she doesn‘t get enough attention as the middle child. She is always worried and anxious about not being as good as her brother or as loved as her sister. I get the problems, and see many kids who will not only enjoy this read but find themselves in it.

This was such a cute story of the crisis of fitting in in middle school. As an educator I understand why the teachers “stopped“ her, but I wish they would have let their lunchcapdes keep going.
I have the next two from the library and can't wait to read them.
@LibrarianRyan I sent it off (from SD) and should be to you by Saturday.

I really enjoyed this book. It showed off how many kids feel about middle school, and can find themselves.
There are more in the series that I can't wait to read (on library hold).

Ok ladies and gentlemen, this is what I have us reading so far.
Right now it is a mix of Middle Grade Graphic Novels and Novels.
I am super excited to start reading mine in just over a week!
I plan to use purple as my color of choice for making.

Deblovestoread @BrittanyReads @LibrarianRyan Looking forward to this round. I will use a teal color for notes. 3y
brittanyreads Good stuff!! I've got black and yellow @Kdgordon88 @LibrarianRyan 3y
LibrarianRyan Y‘all made this very very hard. We have modern realistic in Catus. Comedy in Frazzled. I was going to do Stitchers, but because we already have a ghost story, I‘ll pic monster slaying for some short fantasy (under 300 pages is almost unheard of for modern MG fantasy). I‘m also going to send the GN light fall. You can choose to read either or both. How‘s that sound. @Kdgordon88 @BrittanyReads 3y
LibrarianRyan Also I‘ll use green pen/pencil 3y

I know one of you said MG/MG GN and another was all YA.
So I was looking at my shelves and have 3 YA and 3 MG books on my TBR list. Do any of these jump out at any of you? I will tag the other's in the comments

brittanyreads Hi! Frazzled looks great! 3y
cwarnier I started Pax a couple years back, but never finished it. I think I read Frazzled, but don't remember it. Frazzled is graphic novel style, where Pax is your normal novel style. 3y

Perfect book to start my summer reading! The title also perfectly sums up the way I feel after a crazy last week of school 😂 I adore my students, but this #teacheroflitsy is ready for a break! I think I‘ll read this to my incoming sixies at the beginning of the year ❤️ #summerreading2018

SO cute! I love the food aspect as I can relate heavily 😂 am sticking this on my daughter's shelf. A good positive story about finding your purpose in middle school.

A short novel about a middle school girl who finds her niche as an organizer. Good inspiration for future politicians. #CampReadALot

Cute! Best suited for those about to experience MIDDLE SCHOOL (which is the equivalent of the last year of primary school in Australia). The illustrations help with the flow of the story (which comprise mostly of Abbie's worries about Middle School and life in general) but I'm really not the target audience. I did enjoy Abbie Wu's dramatic flair though - she's 100% doomed, people, DOOMED!

Abbie's middle school experience is very different from mine (I had a Thing; I didn't have an older sibling; I didn't start middle school with friends because I'd just moved)... but her emotional life still resonates very deeply with me right now.

This made me 😂 in the bookshop!
(How old are you when you start middle school?)

julesG About 11 years old? That would be 6th to 8th grade? 7y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @julesG, ahh! That makes sense, the tween years 🤔😬 7y
saresmoore The beginning of puberty, the height of misery. Middle school is a form of torture unto itself. 7y

GirlMeetsBook You need to read it! You could probably do it in about an hour in the corner of a bookshop (or-- get it from the library!!). 7y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @GirlMeetsBook, the library doesn't have it... I might have to go back and read it in my lunch break 😂 7y

Humorous bits; pretty great illustrations, but I think if I gave this to my niece it would give her even more anxiety about starting middle school next year.
