Just finished this super cute middle grade book in preparation for my September Tween Book Club. We're going to talk about typography and how it impacts the message a reader gets, be it a sign, advertisement, book, etc. Should be fun!

(Personally this is a so-so, but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it [clearly, as I'm using it for a library program!].)

Just finished this lovely middle grade book about a tween who struggles to follow in her abusive father's footsteps and meet his excessively high expectations. It sounds heavy, but the author has a gentle touch and the result is wonderful. Very well-written, paced, and with heartfelt, encouraging messages.

Another audiobook I finished over the weekend. Every once in a while I like just a good, solid mystery or thriller. This one seemed to check a lot of my wheelhouse boxes: female centered, murder mystery, dual voices, psychology, girls school/college, etc. Overall it was a good listen! Perhaps not my favorite, but a solid recommendation for folks who enjoy a slow burn mystery hyper focused on character.

Typically I really enjoy Grady Hendrix's stuff, but this one was more on the average side for me. I think a lot of folks will really appreciate it, however. I didn't/don't watch slasher films, and that's what this riffs on, so I think I just am not the target demographic. If you appreciate a good summer slaughter/slasher/scream type flick, then I think you'll really enjoy this self-aware spin on it. #thefinalgirlssupportgroup #horror

Hands-down the most grotesque, intense, and viscerally disturbing book I have ever read. Don't eat before, during, or after. Triggers include sexual abuse, rape, cannibalism, assult, animal abuse, racism, and I'm sure more that I'm forgetting. All that being said, if you can stomach it, it's very well done and I would definitely recommend it. Like Requiem for a Dream, you only need to experience once. #tenderistheflesh #horror #dystopian

Iron Cast | Destiny Soria
Pickpick

I loved it! Diversity and a power team in Ada and Corrine. 1919 Boston is "afflicted" with hemopaths - people with the ability to uniquely influence through their art - and these girls' power is more potent than most. Betrayal and a little romance (not too much, though) and deep friendships. Good stuff.

A beautiful book, but a little lost. A picture book for young adults is a hard chord to strike. Worth a peek, but not a buy.
